It's clearly about drugs. Examples: "chop your breakfast on a mirror" - a reference to cocaine, "needlework the way" - a reference to heroin, "your life burns faster" - a reference to how drugs bring you closer to death by shortening your lifespan every time you do them. You can derive a meaning about war or a meaning about politics all you want, but it is not the true meaning originally intended by the band.
