It's like he wants and hopes that his hypothesis of the earth turning slower than usual to be true; for him, it's like everything ends to soon and there is not enough time for him to enjoy every second of it. For him, sleeping gets you away from the harsh reality wherein things are taken literally leaving out poetry and passion. There's no one he could share this coz they would just think he's nuts and has to wake up to the bitter truth that you have to be serious in order to survive. But sleep gives a whole new meaning to hope. Giving him the ability to understand things better and see their true purposes. And even counters the truth that magical things happens when you believe.

It's like he wishes and hopes that his hypothesis of earth turning slower than usual to be true; to him it's like everything could just end so soon and it was like earth is moving to fast for him to enjoy every second. And sleeping is the only way he could get away from the reality of seing things literally and not with poetry and passion. There's no one you could talk to about this feeling coz they'd think you're nuts.
