In 1969 when Cat was 20 turning 21 he contracted Tuberculosis. He nearly died. He spent months in the King Edward Vll Hospital in Midhurst,West Sussex and about a year of convalescence. This totally changed his outlook on life. He went from a Barry Manilow type pop singer to more of a troubadour, resulting in Mona Bone Jakon, Tea For The Tillerman and Tease and the Firecat. He wrote about 40 songs during his time of healing. I am convinced that Lilywhite was the nurse who cared for him while he was in the hospital."Back up on the mended road," he goes on to say "She'll be passing my way sometime again." He will one day again face his mortality. Listen to his pre TB music and you can see how much of life changing event this was for him.
