This is saying how she's always changing her mind about the relationship and how she feels about her. Like she can't make up her mind whether she likes him or not. Or there could be another man in her life that's causing all these issues between them.

It also could mean that she's trying to tell him that she's through with him by doing all these mean things to him. Basically telling him they're through without actually saying it to him. After all, actions speak louder than words, right?

The repeating of "Say something, I'm giving up on you" is trying to show that he's coming to the end and, well, giving up. Then the last line where he says "Say something" is him giving up on them after fighting for it to work for so long. The way he says it is also important, he says it as if he was exhausted or tired. Which implies that he gave up a good fight that wasn't very successful.

Saying that you would've dropped everything just to be with them whenever. Since it's speaking in the past tense, it gives the sense that they've already accepted that the other person isn't going to continue with the relationship. Even though it's in the beginning, it helps set the tone for the rest of the song.

This line really speaks to me. It's saying how they really want it to work, but the other person isn't trying that much. It reminds me when you've been texting someone for a long time, but you're always the first person to say something. Then there's that one day you don't text first and the person doesn't text you at all so you see how many days you can go without them texting you. Before you know it, it's been a week and they've already moved on to another girl. It's a stomach-dropping feeling and I think that's the feeling they're trying to make the listener experience with this line. A feeling of lost hope and surrendering.

These lines show how he still hasn't figured out love and how it really works. He could also be saying that he's had a past relationship where his heart was broken and he's trying to come back to a point where he'll be able to love again. Like if he was betrayed or the other person, even himself, just gave up on the relationship. That loss of interest could be carrying over to the new one and preventing him from going deeper into the relationship and carrying it out to it's full potential.
