Her problem at school was that she wasn't the prettiest person in school; she didn't have the perfect figure or designer clothes. She was never the smartest person in school; if she was, she would have something going for her, like she would be set on going to Harvard or another top university/college but, her enemy was always popular, and popularity is highly valued and highly respected in high school, so the popular people always seemed to be one place above her.

This is a cheerleader; Ariana is saying how the popular people would be standing at football games waving their pompoms, and now they are selling popcorn (popular corn) at the cinema. Cheerleaders are stereotypically the most popular people in school, so Ariana is saying how you can be the most popular person in the school, but that does not mean that they are going to grow up and have a great life. Popularity doesn't get you anywhere in life, it is your work ethic and perspective on lie that is important and that will send you somewhere.
