The Script – Nothing lyrics
[Verse 1]
Am I better off dead
Am I better off a quitter

They say I'm better off now
Then I ever was with her
As they take me to my local down the street
I'm smiling but I'm dying trying not to drag my feet

They say a few drinks will help me to forget her
But after one too many I know that I'm never
Only they can't see where this is gonna end
But they all think I'm crazy but to me it's perfect sense

[Chorus]
And my mates are all there trying to calm me down
'Cause I'm shouting your name all over town
I'm swearing if I go there now
I can change her mind turn it all around

I know that I'm drunk but I'll say the words,
And she'll listen this time even though they're slurred,
So I dialed her number and confessed to her,
I'm still in love but all I heard was nothing (nothing, nothing...)

[Verse 2]
So I stumble there, along the railings and the fences
I know if we're face to face then she'll come to her senses
Every drunk step I take leads me to her door
If she sees how much I'm hurting
She'll take me back for sure

[Chorus]
And my mates are all there trying to calm me down
'Cause I'm shouting your name all over town
I'm swearing if I go there now
I can change her mind turn it all around

And I know that I'm drunk but I'll say the words,
And she'll listen this time even though they're slurred,
So I dialed her number and confessed to her,
I'm still in love but all I heard was nothing (nothing, nothing...)
She said nothing (nothing nothing)
Oh I wanted words but all I heard was nothing
Oh I got nothing (nothing nothing)
I got nothing (nothing nothing)
Oh I wanted words but all I heard was nothing

[Verse 3]
Oh sometimes love's intoxicating
Oh you're coming down your hands are shaking
When you realise there's no one waiting

Am I better off dead
Am I better off a quitter
They say I'm better off now
Than I ever was with her

[Chorus]
And my mates are all there trying to calm me down
'Cause I'm shouting your name all over town
I'm swearing if I go there now
I can change her mind turn it all around

I know that I'm drunk but I'll say the words,
And she'll listen this time even though they're slurred,
So I dialed her number and confess to her,
I'm still in love but all I heard was nothing (nothing, nothing...)
She said nothing (Nothing, nothing...)
Oh I wanted words but all I heard was nothing
Oh I got nothing (Nothing, nothing...)
I got nothing (Nothing, nothing...)
Oh I wanted words but all I heard was nothing
Oh I got nothing (Nothing, nothing...)
I got nothing, I got nothing

Songs don't always just mean what they say on the surface. In this song, he's basically saying that yes, he loves get and can't get over her. But rather than meaning that he actually called get and didn't say anything, it means that no matter what he says, she still doesn't seem to care about him and his feelings. He could completely cut himself off from get and not speak to her, and it wouldn't affect her. It's one of those "unrequited love" things. They always say that unrequited (unreturned) love lasts the longest. The reason why is because the person will keep holding on, and waiting for the other person to realize how much they really care about them or love them. Most never realize it until it's too late, also saying that we always want what we can't have. We are never happy with where we are in life.

You could spend your entire life waiting for the right person to come along. In my case, the search lasted 23 years, and then I met her. She invited me to visit her in her hometown. I took a chance and when I did, I fell in love with her and the city she lived in. I left everything behind to be with her. Two years later, we married. Never had I experienced a love so deep. She became my world. 18 years and three kids later, she decides this is not the life she wants. She severs herself from my heart and divides my family. Now the only thing I feel is complete brokenness. I know what the verse means, "I'm still in love but all I heard was nothing...". I'm living it. My son, who is now 13, introduced this song to me. It is a great song. It's meaning comes from someone who is deeply in love but receives nothing in return. Kinda like the life that Jesus lived for us. Peace!

This song is exactly what I am experiencing right now. I just said to a lady that I loved her and gets no response from her. I tried every means just to show my love and concern for her, but I didn't get any response or appreciation, so I decided to stop my "craziness" and just go on with my life. Still, she lingers in my heart and mind. What is worse is that we're on the same school and I still see her sometimes. You know the feeling of talking to her and fix everything all over again, but I can't do it because I don't want to end up crying and hurt, hoping that an "unmoved" person would fall inlove with me. I hate myself though, not because of the lack of strength to talk to her and fix everything just as I wanted and be just mere friends, but I hate myself because I still love her no matter what, even though she won't love me.

When I listen to this song all I think about is my girlfriend who was killed by a car crash:(i shout her name all over the place as if she's still there but I hear nothing back. I still love her but what can I do is nothing. I really miss her so much ;( its very strange that whenever I look at her pic, I feel like she is there right next to me everytime and I wish that I could go back in time and not let her out with her friends on a staurday night. I wish that I could go back:*(*

This song is about a broken-hollow-hearted man who was led to believe by the beautiful woman he so dearly loves that she was worth giving all and everything he was to her, only to recieve nothing in return. He gave his heart only so that it could be taken and dissolved away into utter emptiness. Much like me :(
    (ps. Awesome song though haha).
We cry as in this song, a broken hearted man reveals his exit wounds as he can't stop loving the woman that has left him, even though she can't feel a thing. Not for the first time, his friends try to face him to the reality that she is long gone and moved on but he's already a deadman walking because their hearts didn't breakeven and she walked away leaving him as a wreck and she never came back. The moral of the story is that even if you think that this is love, be wise, don't just fall for anything, or you will be an emotional unmoving man with a broken heart and have nothing.

I think that it means that a guy is still in love with a girl and she wants nothing to do with him, but he will do anything to get her back. And his friends try to help him forget her but hes still in love and will always be in love and he trys to get her to listen, but he gets drunk and is trying to win her heart back by telling her how he still feels.

This song says a lot about the affects of alcohol. He and his girlfriend break up, and he decides to drink in the hopes of forgetting his troubles for a while; though in reality it has the exact opposite affect. Instead he's out in public being a drunken lunatic screaming her name and embarrasing himself and his friends. He convinces himself that if he could only talk to her, he can convince her that they should be together again. But he is drunk, and what he wants so desperately to say (which he thinks he is saying) comes out "slurred" and meaningless. Ultimately he does not convince her; she says absolutely nothing to him. He tried to use alcohol to solve his problems, but it all amounted to nothing (except probably creating more problems).

This song is about a man who isn't over his ex and feels like he's still deeply in love with her. His ex doesn't care about him anymore but he was too drunk to care so he called her and said he loved her she didn't say anything. He decided that if she saw him she'd take him back so he went to her house. When he gets there she isn't there and his friends try to console him but it's useless, he loved her too much and now she's gone. *Switch all the he's and she's to the opposite and you get how I feel about someone.*

The song to me is about how this girl committed suicide and he can't believe she's gone because he's in denial. So his friends take him out to drink and he attempts to call her cell but he got nothing because she was dead. I don't really know if this is correct it's just my theory.

I just want to share something here. I really like this song. I did encountered this thing before. I'm ignored, betrayed, broke and all. Unintentionally at this moment, everything got screwed up. If before that I'm the one who's being left alone with broken pieces, now he's the one who experiencing this. I intentionally did that and it just happened. Funny yea. We just have to think not all of the time, people will die just for us. There are some cases that they can make us fell the way we make them felt before.

This song means a lot to me, I'm sure everyone has experienced unrequited love. Loving someone, who doesn't love you back. Who might have loved you, but you don't really know. They probably didn't either. Or not being able to get over the fact that someone has moved on. And of course, the back and forth, I love you-i hate you, relationship that is the stinger. In this song, he knows what he wants so he's gonna go after it, and he is determined to get it. Drunk or not. At least she listened right? Anything wuold have done for him, even an "i don't feel the same. " such a powerful meaningful song.
    I absolutely love this song.

Nothing is about someone having left you and that feeling of nothing. Like, you're not upset or angry but you just feel empty. You feel nothing. The song portrays this with "nothing" originally meaning that the girl who broke up with him said nothing when he called her, but afterwatds when he says "i got nothing" we can see that the word also refers to the feeling of emptiness he has inside of him.

This song reminds me of my ex boyfriend. He already has another girlfriend and we were together on and off for 8 months and he liked another girl.
So when it came down to chosing who, he picked her and forgot about me and everyhing we ever had. Its hard for me because I am inlove with him and want to call him but I don't have the courage to. And this song makes me think if I call him I'm getting no response what so ever.

He is obviously very upset that he lost this girl. Everyone is telling him to just move on but he can't. No matter what he does she is always on his mind. He knows he would give up if he knew she wouldnt be there for him in the end, but he knows she will be. So he wont let go. Then he finally calls her and tells her how he feels and all he gets is. Well, nothing.

This guy is in love with this girl. One night his with his friends and they're trying to help him feel better so they take him to a local bar. But he gets super drunk. And wants to go see the girl. So he stumbles to her house to tell her (mean while his friends are trying to tell him not to) after he gets there he tells herhow he feels but she doesn't say anything at all. He thinks she'll see him and feel bad but. She doesn't say anything. So he's wondering if he's better off dead or a quitter, and his friends are telling him that he's better off without.

This song hits really close to home for me. I just went through tough break up. Not only was she my girlfriend, she was every thing my life has been about for 2 and a half years. She's my best friend, my muse, everything about her makes me a better man. Now that we're over I can't eat or sleep. Everything reminds me of her. I have this overwhelming hope that something I do can fix it. My friends say I'm crazy, and that a tall beer and another woman will make me feel better. I spent for days last week drunk dusk til dawn. I slept with other women. Nothing gets her off my mind and all I wish I could do is talk to her and tell her how much she means to me. I wish and pray that's what it would take, some sort of proof that I still love her. But I can't. She wont pick up her phone. She doesn't respond to my texts. When I went to pick up my stuff her sister gave it to me and she was in her room pretending not to be home. This song is about that.

I love the script so much! They are my fav band! And I think that this song is about the girl and guy dating fr a long time but she told him she loved him but she never said it back. And then after she broke up with him, then he started to realize that he loved her back after what he had was gone. When he talked to her about it, she said nothing because she didn't feel that way about him anymore. Its a really meaningful song. And its my favorite. Just like the song breakeven says: when a heart breaks, it doesn't breakeven.

His girlfriend is long gone for some unexplained reason, but he starts to realize it was a mistake, so his friends take him for a drink when he says "am i better off dead, (because what's done is done, and he can't semm to fix it) am i better off a quitter? (because he quit on the relationship, which was a big mistake. )" but his drunk self conjures up the idea to say the right thing, the truth. So he walks out in a miserable attemp to find her, shouting her name, but when he calls her and tells her, it's slurred, so she thinks the reason he's saying it is because he's drunk. So he goes to her and says it in person, which only confuses her more.

A girl left him, or he left her and is now realizing she meant more to him than he realized. He's sad about it and his friends are telling him too have a drink and he'll feel better. He does indeed get drunk and decides to call her. She says nothing when he tells her that he's still in love, so he decides to tell her in person and she says nothing, again. And now he's contemplating death because of his breakup.

I'm not in love and specially not broken hearted but everytime I'm hearing this song I feel sorry. It's like I'm a man left alone by the girl I loved and I can't move on. Trying to explain your side or asking what had happened but seems like she's not listening and worst of all is not hearing anything from her. Because sometimes it is better to be yelled at for you'll know how she feels that might give you realization on what you've done wrong than hearing nothing at all. It is not being bitter for what happened but the fact that how will you continue living when in fact she's your life.
