The Presets – My People lyrics
I'm here with all of my people
Locked up with all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

So let's head in your room lovely
I'll follow
All around the world for you
And you'll find out tonight oh it's a world of extreme

Oh they'll take all our ceremony
They'll never
Find a happy hope for you
But know that's not the only chance you'll get, yeah you'll see

I'm here with all of my people
Locked up with all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

I'm here with all of my people
Shut down with all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

Still the celebration haunts
Today I
Heard it on the radio
You've gone and found a way to get me out from this place

Soldiers on the water front
They wanna
Ship me far away
I'll find my way tonight so I can find my way to you

I'm here with all of my people
Locked up with all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

I'm here with all of my people
Shut down with all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

I'm here with all of my people
Locked up with all of my people

I'm here with all of my people
Shut down all of my people

And it feels so
And it feels so good
And it feels so
And it feels so good
And it feels so
And it feels so good
And it feels so
And it feels so good
And it feels so...

I'm here with all of my people
Locked up with all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

I'm here with all of my people
Party time all of my people
So let me hear you scream if you're with me

What do you mean "it has no meaning"? Are you at all familliar with current events?
Its about asylum seekers beeing locked up in detention centres. These guys are from Australia, like myself, and for a while it was an issue that dominated the media. We recently elected a new pm, and his government is slowly sorting through all of the peoples applications and dealing with the issue that the previous government let get out of hand, especially conditions in the Woomera Detention Centre.
But this isn't just an Australian issue, its one that occurs in most of the western world.
    Pick up a damn newspaper.

In 2017, a new world record was established with approximately 68.5 million people worldwide forcibly displaced, an increase of 9.2 million people in just twelve months. Heartbreakingly, 52% of the recorded number of refugees by the end of 2017 were children.
The song “My people” by The Presets, repeats lines such as ’locked up with all of my people, shut down with all of my people’, revealing to us the sickening reality that refugees face every day. Millions of people everywhere are denied their rights as refugees and are detained in detention centres and offshore facilities against their will. The United Nations charter states that refugees have the right to freedom from torture or degrading treatment; the right to freedom of opinion and expression; the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion; the right to life, liberty, and security; and freedom from discrimination. Unfortunately, these rights are almost never upheld, especially in detention centres or offshore processing centres such as Nauru and Manus Island.
Representatives of The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have urged the Australian Government on numerous occasions to remove refugees from Nauru and Papua New Guinea. The detention centre on Manus Island has suffered an abrupt decrease in support and the UNHCR has labelled it an unfolding humanitarian emergency. The refugees abandoned on Manus Island have been left without distribution of food and water or essential services including medical care.
When referring to refugees attempting to immigrate to Australia, the Australian Government uses demonising language to portray them in a negative light. Refugees and asylum seekers are referred to as unauthorised maritime arrivals, even though it is completely legal for a person to be a refugee. All boats used by refugees are also referred to by the Australian Government as Suspected Illegal Entry Vessels, even though it is legal for all boats to enter Australian waters.
The practice of removing unauthorised maritime arrivals in Suspected Illegal Entry Vessels (SIEVs) from Australian waters was introduced by the Howard Government in 2001 and reintroduced by Tony Abbott in 2013. Between December 2013 and October 2016, after this practice was introduced, the Australian Government forced 29 boats containing 740 people (asylum seekers) back to Indonesia. Many refugees affected by war, civil war, human rights violations, the environment and climate uncertainty, already being processed, were returned to the places they fled from.
In their song “Wipe That S&*t Eating Grin Off Your Punchable Face”, the Smith Street Band say ‘Do you know, just to keep your job, you’re putting bodies in the ground, drowning refugees at sea, kiss babies screaming vote for me’. This sends a strong message about the effects of the policy reintroduced by Abbott. Over 5000 refugees die on their journey to a safer country and that number will surely double if we continue to turn them away at our borders.
Australia is promoted as being a ‘free land’ however, we detain people who have fled from war and persecution to live in a free land. Why? A lot of people may approve of stopping the boats because of fear from terrorism or crime, however refugees flee to Australia to escape such things. Assuming that refugees will promote crime because of their country of origin, the places they were born, or the religion they follow is straight up discrimination.
