My parents were involved in marriage encounter when I was growing up some 30 years ago. They were married for 45 years. My mother past away two years ago. Now my father has remairred. Whenever I think of him being remairred and I think of my mother this song comes into my head and I just start singing it and I start to cry. I know that she is waiting for him in heaven. I just wanted to share this with you. Thank you mom. I miss you! This helps me at this time.

I read and study the bible. As this song starts it's talking about God, and paradise earth (the promised land). Our earthly loves are gifts from him. However the greatest gift is God's love demonstrated by the price willingly paid by his son Jesus, the gift of our salvation. Can we lose Gods love? I think not, but we can ignore it and, in essence throw it away. Further the name of the band, 'The Seekers' denotes what many do seek, Gods will and guidance in this stormy world. First John 5:19 notes that the devil is in control of this world (system of things). Do you think paradise will be like this? I don't earlier in John (1John 3:8) we're told Jesus came to destroy the devils work.

To continue with my previous thought, a love one is someone you cherish forever with the consciousness.
That this person is the most precious of all to your eyes. Love is all about spirituality. Profound commitment to one another. Being from the same culture of this generation, this song is the most beautiful love song of all. I noticed that people from new generations don't have the conciousness of individuality and can change partners without regretting so called love ones. I never understood these people and I never will. The greatest give of life is to find the true love one for life.

On one level, this song can, of course, be just about human love – if that is what you want. At another level, my wife and I take it to be about God's love for each of us – in sending Jesus to pay the penalty (that we deserve) for the mistakes we have made in this life – the wrong things we have said and done. We can accept that love – or reject it – we have the choice. Jesus died on the cross at Calvary to set us free from the burden of our sin – to make us right before God and enable us to go to Heaven. We can accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour – or ignore and reject Him and his wonderful offer. When we die, it will be too late. I urge everyone to make peace with God – to be reconciled to Him today by humbly and sincerely asking God for forgiveness – by accepting Jesus as Lord of our life – and as our personal Saviour who paid for our wrongdoings. Judith Durham's voice has an almost-angelic, clear-as-a-bell quality which speaks of God's goodness, kindness and eternal love.

This song speaks of love that lasts forever. I am recently widowed after 56 years of a beautiful marriage. My husband and I were involved in marriage encounter years ago. We would sing this song and look into each other's eyes knowing we would always be together, bound in love for each other and Christ. It brings me comfort now reminding me of our forever love!

Uhm I'm pretty certain that in the first verse it's "if you COULD hold my hand" not will. It's just confusing sometimes, like my siblings and I will play do you know the lyrics and it can be difficult not knowing which lyrics are correct if you know what I mean?
