Crown The Empire – Millennia lyrics
[Verse:]
Hey there shadow,
You didn't seem to care at all when you watched me go.
I know young love is just a dream,
We were only seventeen,
But you're the only love I've known
.

So please just let me go if you're done,
'Cause it's hope that kills this heart.
So please set me free, kill the spark.

[Chorus:]
I've been gone,
From this world for what seems like millennia,
Looking for nothing short of a miracle.
I only ever wanted to come home,
Please won't you let me go?
When I have nowhere left I can run away,
Will you lie to me; tell me I'll be okay?
Close my eyes and lay me in my tomb,
Now pull the trigger and send me home!

[Verse 2:]
So how did I get so far from my yesterdays?
Another
broken heart, now just a memory
I
should have left you in the dark
I
should have left this awful town and never found another love.

So I don't wanna know about the things that you regret
Now that we're dead and over and done.
Get away from me, and leave my heart under the rug.

[Chorus:]
I've been gone,
From this world for what seems like millennia,
Looking for
nothing short
of a miracle.
I only ever wanted to come home,
Please won't you let me go?
When I have nowhere left I can run away,
Will you lie to me; tell me I'll be okay?
Close my eyes and lay me in my tomb,
Now pull the trigger and send me home!

So send me home.

[Chorus:]
I've been gone,
From this world for what seems like millennia,
Looking for nothing short of a miracle.
I only ever wanted to come home,
Please won't you let me go?
When I have nowhere left I can run away,
Will you lie to me; tell me I'll be okay?
Close my eyes and lay me in my tomb,
Now pull the trigger and send me...

This seems to me like someone trying to escape the remnants of a past broken relationship,.
Who has been trying to do all he can to forget and move on, but he cannot seem to escape it.
And now regrets the actions he took to even make it happen in the 1st place.

He calls her shadow, cause that's all she is now, a figure in the past (behind him).
She apperently was not affected by the break up of the relationship between these 2 teens.

Even though he knows young love never lasts, he still holds on to the memories cause for him ti was more.
In the meantime she keeps giving him signs of hope, of a maybe.

He jsut wants things to go back to how they were before, as if nothing ever happened.
He hasn't felt ok in a long time (been away for millennia) and he just longs for the feeling of normality, of home,.
But the situation that was left behind from the break up does not let him,.
And he doesn't know what else to do now and is even willing to live a lie.

Ah, to me this had a very different meaning than something of romance. It will take some time to explain.

When I listened to it, I listened in the perspective of someone or something that had died (for myself it was an animal), and the song was a story between them and their beloved in going through the process of death and thereafter. It was mostly the chorus that brought me the idea. I will do my best explaining each part in how I interpreted it.

First Verse: The day when they were ready to pass away, their beloved had a blank expression, as if they didn't care if they lost them. The pet's owner was young, but the animal had lived long enough. The time they spent together however was well-lived, but short. Throughout the animal's relatively short lifespan they had only known the love their owner had shown them all those years. In dying the animal just wants to get it over with, and their owner clinging for a chance to keep them is painful. The animal silently begs for release, as it was their time.

Chorus: Once they've passed away, their ghost still lingers with their owner, wishing along with them that somehow there would be a miracle in which would allow the pet to return home to them. Knowing that that wasn't possible, they begged their owner to let them go, so they may move on to run to their new home.

Second Verse: Both the deceased animal and their owner asked, how did time pass by so quickly? The owner's heart was broken after losing their pet, but now the pet was just a memory to them.

As for the verse "I should have left this awful town and never found another love," this I admit is where my interpretation of the song doesn't really fit. One might say that it was the owner saying that they're in too much pain, and as a result they at one point wished to have never met their animal companion. Maybe the owner had lost a pet some time ago, and now losing another one had rekindled the grief that they didn't want to experience again. Continuing on with the lyrics, the deceased pet didn't want to know the things their owner would've done differently or the mistakes they regretted, especially since their relationship had come to an end. It was also too painful for the pet to be seperated from their owner, and on top of that seeing their owner struggle being without them. As a result they longed for their connection to be severed so they could continue on without the pain.

I know this isn't at all what the song was intended to portray, but I thought I would try sharing my input anyway. I had recently lost a pet about a couple weeks ago, so perhaps my perspective on songs have changed a little.

If you've made it this far, thank you for reading. Please let me know what you think.
