He realizes that none of the things his mother taught him no longer hold any meaning to him he realizes that anything that he once cared about is now what makes him regret life he feels that anything that had any morality in his life was pulled from him by the alcohol he feels that even though he didn't intend to harm anyone he can't go back and fix his mistakes he feels that anyone who takes the life of an innocent person deserves no mercy.

He sings about his friend who once lived a normal life just like anyone of us but the only person he had left to care for was his mother he got by paying for her hospital bills until she died when she passed he felt he had nothing to live for had no one else to love he decided that the best way to solve his problems in his life was to drink he reflects back on his life during this and realizes he hates his life.
