These story is about two lovers that can never be together due to some situations beyond their control, although both of them are aware of the fact but one is hoping that things will turn out differently, they are so deeply in love and have done a lot together, shared moments, dreams and lots more and can't stop loving each other even though later separated and probably had partners but their hearts belongs and yearns for each other that's the reason for the hollow. the one feeling guilty is the one that knows from the beginning that the relationship is futile. I know a living example of this same predicament.
