Both parties are experiencing the same thing after breaking up. But what it means to them is so vastly different. The guy got time to kill, now has to find some way to pass the time, to deal with the loss. The girl got freedom. She's happy, he's not.
(This is my favorite part of the lyrics. The contrast between what the guy feels and what the girl feels is captured so succinctly here. It's perfect).
