My heart's far, far away
Home, and free

Is this home?
Am I here for a day or forever?
Shut away from the world until
Who knows when
Oh but then
As my life has been altered once it can change again
Build higher walls around me
Change every lock and key
Nothing lasts, nothing holds all of me
At this point in the song Belle is starting to come to terms with the fact that she will be in the Beast's castle for possibly a very long time. In the fifth line she is referring to moving to the village in which she has moved to where both her heart and her home are. The last three lines show Belle's strength as she is saying that no matter what happens she will get through it.

What I'd give
To return
To the life that I knew lately
But I know that I can't
Solve my problems going back
Even though Belle was not happy living in her small provincial town, she is saying here that she would much rather return there than to be stuck imprisoned in the Beast's castle. However, she knows that going back to her village will not solve any of her problems or make her situation better.

Is this home?
Is this what I must learn to believe in?
Try to find something good
In this tragic place
Just in case
I should stay here forever
Held in this empty space
Here, Belle's good nature and optimism is shining through as even though she is unhappy being kept like this she is trying to find something good in the situation, even though there is nothing.

Is this home?
Is this where I should learn to be happy?
Never dreamed
That a home could be
Dark and cold I was told
Every day in my childhood
Even when we grow old
Home will be where the heart is
Never were words so true
My heart's far, far away
Home is too
In this first chorus Belle is expressing her disgust at being held prisoner even though the Beast has told her the castle is her home now, she does not feel at home as it is ''dark'' and ''cold'' which is not how a home should be. She is also saying that her heart does not belong to this place and that it belongs in the village and her home, with her father. At the end of the chorus Belle is saying that her heart is far away with her home, which is also far away.

Well then... you're a fool
Think again
In this verse Belle is showing her anger and upset towards the Beast as he is keeping her in his castle as a prisoner and is not being treated as she should, seeing as she has just given up her freedom to release her father from the Beast's capture.

But I don't deserve to lose my freedom in this way
You monster
Here Belle is calling the Beast a monster as he has treated her so cruelly. He didn't even let her say goodbye to her father before she was roughly thrown into his dungeon and taking her freedom away from her. He she expresses her contempt and anger at how the Bast has treated her. Here we are lead to believe that the Beast is, as Belle says a "monster".
