Yup. This song IS NOT about love at all. It is about infatuation, a lust inspired by the basest of human interactions. And so the singer keeps on asking in his ignorance "How can we make Love stay?" If one must ask that question, then what one is experiencing is not love, but lust, something that eventually burns out like a dying fire. Love IS NOT based upon the notion of "flesh greedily consumed," or sexual contact. Nor is it based on using others as a salve for loneliness. Love goes far deeper. It begins with two people deciding to become friends, and so "liking" comes first. Friendship is paramount as those two begin to share life experiences and common interests, and share good times AND BAD with family and friends. The friendship deepens as the two come to reliably depend on each other in good times and bad, and that makes love grow. Then, there is no need to "make Love Stay" because the two are best friends, happy in companionship FIRST and satisfied with sex second. There is then mutual admiration and respect - and bonds of loyalty. As a famous book says, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." At this point True Love IS, and there is no need to worry because it will stay.
