He managed to see a cop that was doing his normal route and checking out the neighbor hood. the man shoot off a round making the officer stop and check out what was going on. The cop was a pretty big sized man that he had flagged down. Once the cop sees the gun he thinks that he done the crime of killing his best friend. Then the officer asked him for an explanation as to way he killed the man.

As he approached the house he saw that someone had already killed him and that someone was his sister. He was scared of what had happened to his best friend even though, he had came there to do the same thing to him. He could see that the were other tracks which means that there was someone that came though the woods before him that night or possibly that afternoon between the time of the meeting at the bar and seeing him lying there.
