"And they shot me full of ephedrine"
"This is how we do it in the murder scene"

Ephedrine is a diet pill, that when taken in large amouts whilst pregnant can kill your unborn child. This shows that the young girl is scared about being pregnant and wants it to go away, it also suggests that she is taking these diet pills to stay thin so she can "forget" that she is pregnant.

"Well I'm a total wreck and almost everyday
Like the fireing squad or the mess you made"

This is aimed at the boyfriend who got her pregnant. She is very scared and confused and angry. It was not just her fault as it was him who got her into this mess in the first place.

"Well I don't look pretty walking down the street
In the best damn dress I own?"

Her faveorite dress doesn't fit her anymore and this makes her feel unattractive and not very pretty due to her pysical condition.

"We are young and we don't care
Your dreams and your hopeless hair
We never wanted it to be this way"

They are too young to have a child. They have lost all their dreams. When you are that young, you should not have to worry about raising a child. You should only have small, petty things like your hair to worry about.

"If you were here
I'd never have a fear
So go on live your life
But I miss you more than I did yesterday"

I think that maybe the boyfriend has left her when she needs him most. He has left so he can live his life, leaving her alone and scared. She misses him and wants him to come back. I think she is also very angry at him for leaving her in this state and wonders if he ever even cared about her

"Do you care at all?"

This song's meaning is generally open for interpretation. When you first hear it it sounds like a desperate song and that the patient is very ready to die. But he is saying that if I live I will live and am not afraid to. This song also shows great courage and determination as the patient seems determined he is not going to die.

Although there are many meanings, a popular one among fans is that the Patient is ready to go to Heaven, and as 'the lights are blinding' him, he appears there, however, when he opens his eyes, he sees him self laying next to his lover. He speaks the words that he never though he would, "I love you/I'm sorry" but he does not know if he is dead or is alive. He then realises that there is nothing to fear in life, only times that he should grieve and that he is "Not afraid to keep on living" and regardless of what could happen, he is "Not afraid to walk this World alone", he will keep going in life no matter what, because he now sees the beauty of it. The two final lyrics are very debatable. There are two ways that this could be taken, that the Patient was allowed to say a final goodbye to his lover and then pass on to the afterlife, whether it is in Hell or Heaven (Now that he is forgiven), or whether he is allowed a 'second chance' for lack of a better phrase. Following the second chance, it seems that the Patient's lover does not yet realise he is going to stay and live, so she says that she will be forgiving of what he has done if he stays, the Patient then replies, maybe even in a jokey sort of way, that there is nothing you can do to stop him living anymore, he is back and is staying. If you follow the fact that these are his 'Famous Last Words' and that he is now going to the afterlife, then his lover would be replying to him saying that she does not want him to go and she will forgive him if he stays, but the Patient has to go, and seals his death by saying that nothing she is able to say will be able to bring him back to life, or as the song says, 'home'. Please note that there are many ways that the song can be interpreted and that this is also open to interpretation, as is any other song and the ending is a very crucial point in the songs meaning, but unless a member speaks out truthfully about what the song means in detail, we will never fully know the Patient's destiny.

In an interview, Gerard Way was quoted as saying, "At first I thought [the patient died], but the more I think about it, the more I think he's not dead. Maybe this is all in his head. Maybe he can fight. Now I think he has a choice to live." The song's meaning is generally open to interpretation, as said before, because its lyrics never really tell one way or the other whether the patient dies.

The last lines of the song imply that the patient's lover is in fact the person who has died. "I see you lying next to me with words I thought I'd never speak" suggests that the Patient's lover is lying next to him in a coffin, as he speaks about her during the funeral service. The line "Awake and unafraid, asleep or dead" is further evidence that the Patient is alive and has entered into some new state of self-perception, that he has cleared himself of regrets. However there is no mention of the Patient's state; whether he has recovered from his illness or not.

Location: My Chemical Romance - Early Sunsets Over Monroeville lyrics | posted: Sep 19, 2008 at 11:02 PM

this song is written about the movie 'Dawn Of The Dead'
This is what I think Early Sunsets Over Monroeville is about:

(first off, the mall in the movie is called Monroeville Mall)
Late dawns and early sunsets, just like my favorite scenes
(I believe this line gives an indication that he is referencing a movie. keywords here: DAWN, "my favorite scenes")
Then holding hands and life was perfect, just like up on the screen
And the whole time while always giving
Counting your face among the living

Up and down escalators, pennies and colder fountains
(escalators and water fountains: found in most malls, including the one featured in Dawn of the Dead)
Elevators and half price sales, trapped in by all these mountains
(once again he mentions objects which are found in malls: elevators, sales. The "trapped by mountains" refers to the fact that the mall was surrounded by hills and fields)
Running away and hiding with you
I never thought they'd get me here
Not knowing you'd change from just one bite
(as in change into a zombie from one bite)
I fought them all off just to hold you close and tight
(here is what I believes gives an indication that while it is based on Dawn, it is not literal. The character who gets bitten and dies on a bed had no love affair with the person who shot him)

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head...
But would anything matter if you're already dead?
(would it matter if I shot you if you are already a zombie and therefore dead?)
And well should I be shocked now by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger,
Your eyes vacant and stained...

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head...
And would anything matter if you're already dead?
And now should I be shocked by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger,
Your eyes vacant and stained...
(a reference to the blank lifeless stare of zombies)
And in saying you loved me,
Made things harder at best,
And these words changing nothing
As your body remains,
And there's no room in this hell,
(the movie's tagline was "When there is no room left in hell, the dead will walk the earth." still think it's not at least based on Dawn? If not, you are brainless.)
There's no room in the next,
And our memories defeat us,
And I'll end this direst.

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head...
But does anything matter if you're already dead?
And should I be shocked now by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger,
Your eyes vacant and stained...
And in saying you loved me,
Made things harder at best,
And these words changing nothing
As your body remains,
And there's no room in this hell,
There's no room in the next,
But does anyone notice there's a corpse in this bed?
(the character Roger is bitten and subsequently dies and reanimates in a bed.)

I think at first it means that we all have the strength to face and overcome our weaknesses. whether it be addiction (like gerard), etc. 'We hold in our hearts the sword and the faith' and there's a way through everything 'And through it all, we'll find some other way
To carry on through cartilage and fluid' then I think it talks about gerard's past (his drinking problems) 'From the lights to the pavement
From the van to the floor
From backstage to the doctor'
and that if he didn't overcome it he could have died. 'From the Earth to the morgue, morgue, morgue, morgue ' and then he's wondering if his death will 'ever come' and that he could play for the rest of eternity for the dead. 'Spend the rest of your days rocking out
Just for the dead '
and he's saying eventually, we all die anyways.
'All fall down
Well after all...'

"Well I was there on the day they sold the cause for the queen/And when the lights all went out/We watched our lives on the screen/I hate the ending myself/But it started with an all right scene."
At this point, one can assume that Gerard might choose to explain how people, at one time or another, take the time to reflect back on their lives. There are points *the beginning scene that gerard talks of* that we enjoyed and many times of regret (endings).

"It was the roar of the crowd that gave me heartache to sing/It was a lie when they smiled and said you won't feel a thing/And as we ran from the cops/We laughed so hard that it would sting."
People are often telling others that life is a happy thing, something that can always be viewed with an optomistic attitude. Well, for anybody who's actually been living life, I'm sure that you're well aware that it's a huge lie. There are points in your life where you get hurt or fall down. Sometimes you may even get to the point where you attempt to fool yourself/others with a facade of laughter *Running from the cops and laughing hard*.

"I spent my high school career spit on and shoved to agree/So I could watch all my heroes sell a car on TV/Bring out the old guillotine/We'll show them all what we all mean."
Gerard could be referring to his own past at this point. Times, where he was pushed around and made all outcasted while he watched others live successfully and happily.
The Guillotine was a device ment for quick killings during the french revouloution. If any of the french did not show enough support for their revoloution/ government, they were often sent to the guillotine and beheaded in front of everyone. And it is my belief that he is showing many others in life had been pushed and forced to do things they were against, or they would surely suffer for it in one way or another.
If I'm so wrong, How can you listen all night long? Now will it matter after I'm gone? Because you never learn a goddamned thing.

"You're just a sad song/With nothing to say/About a life long wait for a hospital stay/And if you think that I'm wrong/This never meant nothing to ya..."
The main point of this song is located right here! If he's so wrong about how your's and everybody's life has been, then why haven't you stopped listening?
Even when he stops "preeching", will you admit to learning that he's right?
If you continue to just mope around until death, there will be nothing to remember as life "flashes" before your eyes.* a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait... Hospital bed*
*And if you think that I'm wrong, this never ment nothing to ya*
This is his message to the listeners that if you don't see what he's trying to say, that what their songs are all about were just words that passed though your ears, never making you think of a meaning behind them.

"So go/Run away/Just go/Run away/But where did you run to/And where did you hid to find another way?/Price you pay."
So, go on continue to keep on running from these problems. But where will you go, and what will you do to find a life worth memorable moments. It's the price you'll pay for not getting up and facing these dark moments in your life.

Gerard wrote this for his girlfriend, back then. This is basically his tribute to her, and how he loves her so much, and is trying to prove it. It means that he would die with/for her. All he's doing is proving his love.
It also means that he'd take a bullet for her, just to save her, because he loves her so much.

For the 'patient'.
This song could be about a 3rd person kind of talking to the patient. Telling him how he's going to die soon, and how his life kind of sucked. Anyways, and he never got to do the things he wanted
"you never fell in love"
"No one ever had much nice to say/I think they never liked you anyway"
And how it would be the best to just kill yourself," wouldn't it be grand to take the pistol by the hand?"
I don't know, this is just what I think...

"It's the tearing sound of love-notes" Ok so that's the love letters..thats are tearing..hurting him.
"Drowning out these gray stained windows" He's using the colour gray to paint a image of his emotions,I loved the stained bit..indicating that they werent always like this..windows are suppose to be breaks of opportunity hope and light..an exit if you will..but these are gray stained..so the most basic of things are not working.
"And the view outside is sterile" Again, he's kind of reflecting on his hiding away from the outside..as if he's afraid.
"And I'm only two cubes down" This personally gives me the image of one of those huge offices, with 100s of cubes..and even though she's so close and he see her all the time, their so far apart.
"I'd photocopy all the things that we could be" He's obviously spent some time day dreaming and invisioning their future..he'll photocopy...so he writes these notes over and over..photocopy as in they'll all basically be the same- I love you. -Type of thing.
"If you took the time to notice me/But you can't now, I don't blame you" He probally missed an opportunity and he's blaming himself. I say it didn't affect him until she moved jobs because it probally turned into one of thos things..o maybe tomorrow..and than a hundred tomorrows passed and he lost his chance.
"And it's not your fault that no one ever does" Again reffering to his life as a series of dissapointments..low self esteem .
"But you don't work here anymore/It's just a vacant 3 by 4" As in the size of the cubical.

I think this song is about a wife that cheats on her husband. But I think it means something totally different as well.
"And crash the cemetery gates/In the dress your husband hates"
This shows she was obviously seeking revenge on her husband, even if it meant just something simple, like wearing the dress he hates that she owns.
"Where the search lights find us/Drinking by the mausoleum door"
And this obviously means that she was with another man (not her husband) and thus she was cheating.
"And they found you on the bathroom floor"
"It isn't that much fun, staring down a loaded gun"
And these show that she obviously died, somehow but in the chorus:
"I miss you, I miss you so far/And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard"
It suggests that maybe the man she was cheating with helped her by assisted suicide. because he says that it was very hard for him to do it, and that she was depressed, based on this line in the song:
"singing songs that make you slit your wrists"

"So I won't stop dying, won't stop lying/If you want I'll keep on crying/did you get what you deserve?/Is this what you always want me for?"
Obviously her husband feels guilty for all the things he did to her, and he still loves her, but maybe she got what she deserved because she cheated on him and all.

So yeah I think this song is more than just about cheating, but also about assisted suicide.

"Cancer" depicts the most emotional point in the Patient's story. Here the Patient is tired and bedridden from the cancer that is surely killing him. He is starting to come to terms with the fact that he will die, and begins to make arrangements and requests for his inevitable death, ("Call my aunt Marie, help her gather all my things, and bury me in all my favorite colors"). As he is doing so, he realizes that there is still something he just can't quite accept, and that is having to part with the one who loves him the most, his lover ("The hardest part of this is leaving you"). He tells his lover that he will not kiss her, possibly because he wants to sever his connection with her as much as possible to make it easier for him to cope with having to leave her. Also he may be regretful of being spiteful to her like he was in "I Don't Love You", and may feel that he does not deserve her forgiveness, which is a point that is touched on more in "Sleep". He goes on to somewhat apologize for his erratic behavior, saying he's just "soggy from the chemo". Finally he asks her that even if she were to leave him at this moment, he requests just one thing of her, that she'll never marry. ("And if you'd say goodbye today, I'd ask you to be true"). "Cancer" shows that the Patient still has the potential to go to heaven, and that he isn't all bad. This foreshadows his eventual change of attitude in "Famous Last Words".

think this song could be about how obsessed fans can be, and how they can want so much out of their idols and how MCR might feel that even though they do all they can its never enough for their fans or other people.
'Give them blood, blood, gallons of the stuff, give them all that they can drink and it will never be enough'
As if they are giving their very souls in their work, pouring out every ounce of them into what they do and how some people can still want more.

I think the song also talks about his life. He describes the way he acts when he calls himself a "machine" and "no longer living" (meaning he lives lifelessly, just an empty shell). I also believe that when he repeats "automatic, I imagine, I believe", he explains that he doesn't give much thought to what he does; it simply happens (It is frequent for those suffering from depression to act like "zombies" or "robots". Therefore, they do not think of what to do next, they simply follow their instinct, what they know, and act "automatic"ally). In pain ("it never gets painless"), he dreams of something in particular; perhaps a place of escape. In order to accomplish that dream, or fantasy, he is willing to do whatever in order to get it.

I think this song is about someones journey to something that they think is greater then what there life is now and the people around him/her telling them that this journey has changed who they are. The person on the journey sees no change and if they do they think it's for thew better. This song is that person telling everyone to back off...that they know what they're doing and that all these people don't understand what the main person has been through.

I think that this song is basically about how there is just too much pressure and there's so many things going on with this person.
Like when he says "on his face is a map of the world" basically sounds like there's just a lot of pressure. Then when he says "from yesterday its coming" well tells me that well maybe he's trying to forget everything and he can't forget it keeps coming back everything and trying to forget is putting on pressure.

I believe this song is about wanting to be free and be unique. I also think it is about taking risks and not always playing in on the safe side.

To be free: I believe he feels as though he is kept prisonner, and his only wish, or dream, is to escape. "You wanna be the one in control. You wanna be the one who's alive. You wanna be the one who's old.", referring to the person keeping him prisoner. "My dreams will never change", referring to his dream of freedom and escape.

To be unique:"Six billion people just one name", meaning we are all the same.

Taking risks: The bridge and the chorus talks about taking risks - "Stand out on the edge of the earth. Dive into the center of fate. Walk right in the sight of a gun. Look into the new future's face."

I interpret the song along the lines
"Lie awake in bed at night
And think about your life
Do you want to be different?
Try to let go of the truth
The battles of your youth
'Cause this is just a game"
It about surronding ones self with some sort of facade or 'lie', and is about your manageing to convince you and those around you that the life you are living is 'perfect' and 'beautiful'. When really you are in complete denial about the fact that you are truly unhappy.

I think this song is about how after the end of a relationship, he realized he had changed himself to be who she wanted him to be, not who he had wanted to be. "These are the lies I have created" they don't feel real to him anymore and now he understands it wasn't worth it to be something you aren't.

or
I see the lies I've created as more like the lies we ALL create about our lives. The way we rewrite our own personal histories to benefit ourselves. No one is ever completely honest about how they caused things in their life to not turn out right.

This is about owning the lies in your life story
