In the bible it says that we are all born with origins sin. We pay for the sins of Adam & eve. The 7 deadly sins are born in us & the price we pay for someone else's actions. In order to rid ourselves we must have absolution by the church. Baptism is the ritual we do to cure this sin. He believes she paid the consequences for his sins & now he can't live with himself knowing he's alive & she's no longer a breathing entity but instead an idea, a thought that haunts him daily only escalating the pain & guilt he feels. I don't believe that homosexuality is the underlying definition in this song.

Maybe the lover killed herself over him. But most definitely I sense guilt & regret in his voice.
