I had to change
Couldn't stay all my life down at heel
Looking out of the window
Staying out of the sun
So I chose freedom
Running around trying everything new
But nothing impressed me at all
I never expected it too

Don't cry for me Argentina
The truth
Maria Eva Duarte was the illegitimate daughter of a depression era bankrupt, middle class father in the rural Los Toldos in the Buenos Aires province. If one looks at a map of Argentina it looks like a descending foot. The area from which she came looks like the heel of the foot. She lived poor in a poor, unconnected family. Because of her illegitimacy, and by no fault of her own, she lived with the stigma and as an outcast in a prim provincial Catholic town. She had shown talent as an actress and performer at her school. She loved to listen to the radio and dreamed of being an actress on the radio melodramas she loved, so she could escape the limited prospects of her small town existence. Her family moved to Junin, a bigger provincial town closer to Buenos Aires. She later moved on to Buenos Aires. Her beauty and improving theatrical talent as still a teenager, allowed her to obtain modeling jobs and then roles in radio melodramas. She began to get small parts in films. Escaping the hard scrabble life in which she had been unfairly marginalized and stigmatized seemed to be her driving motivation for achievement, accolades, achievement and power.
