Optimus Prime, with his final breath, ended his career as Autobot leader with the words "'til all are one", and he was about to pass the Matrix of Leadership to Ultra Magnus, but it slipped out of his hands. after Unicron was destroyed, all the Autobots banded together on Cybertron and chanted together: "'til all are one!"

Optimus Prime's dying words in the movie (chapter four of the DVD) mention using the Autobot Matrix of Leaderhsip to "light our darkest hour". Prime evidently knew something about the Matrix that the other Autobots didn't, i.e. its ability to destroy the evil planet-consuming Unicron and end the Autobot-Decepticon War on Cybertron and Earth.
