the voices),
In your head (in your head),
Make them like you instead.

So complicated,
Look happy
Hearing voices may refer to something as mild as you, thinking negative thoughts about yourself or as severe as the symptom for mental illness and schizophrenia. Either way, these voices can say a lot of negative and hurtful things about yourself. The worst part is, these voices are difficult if not impossible to get rid of. The singer recognizes this struggle. So instead of advising people to try and get rid of the voices, she simply asks them to accept them and help turn them into positive voices. This can be taken metaphorically. Instead of constantly thinking negative thoughts about yourself, try and look at the positive things about you.

Miss "No way, it's all good",
It didn't slow me down.
Mistaken, always
The singer talks about how she's always been an outcast. She's been mistreated, misplaced and misunderstood, three characteristics of someone who's lost her way. "No way, it's all good" is a phrase you say to keep someone from worrying or wondering, even though it's obvious that you're not doing all that well. She probably tells everyone this lie. Still, despite her being down on her luck, she still managed to get through life and come out okay. Life never slowed her down.

wrong turn,
Once or twice.
Dug my way out,
Blood and fire.
Bad decisions,
That's alright.
Welcome to my silly life;

Mistreated, misplaced
The singer talks about how all her life, she's made the worst decisions. Made a wrong turn is an idiomatic expression that means to choose the wrong options or to make a wrong decision. She also states that she's done this once or twice, meaning she's often made wrong decisions in the past. Dug my way out, blood and fire means she's fought her way through some difficulties. She solves her problems with violence. Finally, she accepts all of the bad decisions she's made and say's it's alright. That's just how "silly" or complicated her life is.

where you left me
This must be a bad trip
All of the other pills, they were different
Maybe I should get some help

I can't stay on your life
The singer compared her lover with other pills or her lovers in the past. She says they were different and they didn't cause her the same pain and confusion that she is feeling now. She recognizes her addiction and her failure to resist her "new drug". She knows she has to get over him. That's why she thinks about seeking help. Perhaps talking to her loved ones or finding someone new. What's important is that she finds a way to get over her current "addiction".

I can't stay on your life
The singer compares her lover to a drug. Some drugs can leave you feeling stoned. This is a feeling of complete relaxation. It's as though you have a weight that ties you down and keeps you unmotivated. This is similar to how the singer hasn't moved from the spot where her lover left her. However, she continues to say, this must be a bad trip. A bad trip is a state of anxiety, fear and a complete loss of one's self identity. She's talking about how her lover is a drug that's bad for her and causes her to doubt who she really is.

He senses something, call it desperation
Another dollar, another day
The man senses that Mona Lisa is desperate. She's a working girl whose job is probably not all that noble or admirable. Still, she has to work. "Another dollar, another day" refers to how this job is now routine. Even if it wasn't the best job in the world, it pays for what she needs; it keeps her alive. And it's what she's used to doing. There's no reason to fix or change something that isn't broken.

I'm just a notch in your bedpost but you're just a line in a song
(Notch in your bedpost, but you're just a line in a song)
These lines talk about how they each think their lover is not all that important. The man says "I'm just a notch in your bed post." This means to the girl, he's just another guy she's slept with. This is in reference to an old practice where you add notches to a stick to keep score. The man retaliates by saying "but you're just a line in a song". He shows that she doesn't matter much to him as well because she is only remembered as a few lines in a song. After these lines are sung, her memory is gone. She is immortalized in the song as someone who doesn't matter (which seems ironic).

I know is we said "Hello"
And your eyes look like coming home
All I know is a simple name
Everything has changed
All I know is you held the door
You'll be mine and I'll be yours
All I know since yesterday is everything has changed

[Ed
They've only exchanged simple conversations, as evidenced by simply saying "Hello". Still, that simple exchange between them is more than enough for them to know they're meant for each other. This is made clear with the lines "your eyes look like coming home". They're so comfortable with each other that it feels as comfortable as home, as though they've known each other for so long. The young nature of their relationship is supported by the next line "all I know is a simple name". They only know a bit about each other, just names basically. And yet, "everything has changed" because they've fallen deeply for each other.

The next lines "all I know is you held the door" could be symbolic for opening doors to a new relationship. They are now both willing to open up to one another and let each other in. This is supported by the line "you'll be mine and I'll be yours." "All I know since yesterday" means they've only recently met and yet "everything has changed".

And all I've seen since eighteen hours ago
Is green eyes and freckles and your smile
In the back of my mind making me feel like
These lines talk about that lingering feeling after you've just met the love of your life. She woke up knowing something she didn't before. That's because they've only recently met. It's only been 18 hours since they last saw each other. And she's only known him for that long. Still, all she can do is think about him. In her mind, she can picture his green eyes, his freckles and his smile. Because of this, all she wants to do is get to know him more.
