The meaning of this song is interpreted in many different ways. I believe that the meaning is a metaphoric critique of society. What he is saying, is that the modern day of age is greedy, and unoriginal (not all, but most). Techincally, what he is saying, is that he would rather die than blend in with the rest of the mortal world, because if everyone were nothing but the same, this world would be corrupt. By the way, I am the person below. But I didn't want to be titled 'unregistered'. I forgot to log in. :/
