"
So transformed him
Realizing a form out of stone
His work so absorbed him
Could she hear him?
Could she see him?
All aglow was his room dazed in this light
He would touch her
He would hold her
Laughing as they danced
Highest colors touching others
The first line here seems pretty key to me - it is "So transformed him". There is something happening with the sculptor and the status of the sculpted form is framed in questions: "Could she hear him? Could she see him?"
Psychologically the effect is there, albeit it is not expressed in the present tense: "He would touch her. He would hold her". Something transformative has happened and it is powerfully expressed by the music that follows - a change in tempo that signals an insistent pulse from the stillness that surrounds it.
