Like mistysan said, this song is about losing someone/dying. The way the song is sung is very interesting because it gives you the idea that either a parent, or some type of care giver is singing the song. "The sun will set for you." Well ya, that's saying that your going to die soon. "The shadow of the day will embrace the world in gray." this is referring to the dying person's death will make close ones sad, or embrace them in depression. "Sometimes goodbye's the only way." is saying that the person is to damaged or ill to live any longer, or he/she is in great pain. "The only way", saying that the only way for peace for everyone. Now more so for the dying person than everyone else, but eventually they will be at peace with nature again and that they don't have to worry about him/her being in pain any longer.

"I try to hold on to this world with everything I have, But I feel the weight of what it brings" this is saying that he/she tries to stay alive on this world, but in the end it just brings more pain, so he feels the "weight of what it brings". "The many trials that seem to never end." is referring to the trials of life or the harshness of sins repeating tragedies. "His word declares the truth." Obviously, that through everything you go through in life the Word of God is the only thing you can fully believe in. "Troubled soul don't lose your heart, Cause joy and peace he brings, And the beauty that's in store, Outweighs the hurt of life's sting." this is saying that no matter what happens to you don't loose faith in God for the events of the future will be overcome the hurt of sin.

What this song is talking about is War. Why? Well it is referring to the leaders that send troops against the enemies with out caring if anyone dies. So in other words Emotionless leaders. "Take it, take it, take it, take it all." is referring to the objective of the assault. "You know they are only toys!" is showing that the leader hasn't a care about what happens to the soldiers, only that the objective is finished. (This next sentence is not meant to offend anyone, I'm very sorry if it does.) Sort of like the Japanese War leaders in wwii, it took two Nuclear Bombs to make them stop fighting. In a way at that time the leaders did not care who died, because they were "only toys". Also when the song says "Suffocate your own empire it is referring to the fact that these leaders probably don't realize they are destroying they're own country by being so heartless.

What this song is saying is that the people who fail the most turn out becoming the most successful. Or the people who follow what they believe in and don't care what others think about them, will be made fun of, beaten up, but in the end when it really matters it turns out, that the one who followed his/her belief through everything was the one to "stand above the crowd".

Yes, in one way this song can be taken as a salute to the soldiers, but there is another point besides that. It means that when there is no more hope left. Someone will save you from your troubles if you are open to them. That there is always a place to go no matter what happens. Also in the line "So many times you did not bring this on yourself." it means that did the citizen really deserve to have their life taken from them when they did nothing to earn their death. That instead of the one truly responsible for war taking the blame. The authorities send innocent people to fight they're own disputes. Also It can be talking about anyone or anything that saves us from evil or destruction. When I am saying this I do not mean to offend anyone I'm sorry if I do, I really am. And I still am agreeing with other posts saying this song is about the military. But like Kairikate52 said this song has multiple interpretations.
