When he wrote this song, he was a young teenage kid just starting nsn. He was dealing with his life the way all of us are, and spending many nights alone writing music, smoking weed to escape from his thoughts, and trying to figure out how the f*k he was going to live. I can imagine him in his basement, recording this song and thinking about a girl who he felt he let down, and how she is in his thoughts and still means so much to him. This song is a reflection of that entire situation and how "overtheyears" he was changing, growing, and feeling emotion, and that this girl (whoever she was) inspired him to say "You're the one who keeps me asleep, on the nights where I can care less If I ever woke up again."

He's writing about how his parents' divorce shook his entire thought about what "love" really is. Many people, when their parents fall out of love, stop believing in it because they have no reason to believe that it actually lasts. The line "What is love? See, I don't know anymore. I used to look. up. to. that. love." sums up the whole song. I love Chris Drew because he says things that so many people feel in such an honest way. He knew that his parents might hear this song and feel guilty, but he needed to express the fact that he was lost at that point.

This song is really simple, but full of his emotion. Obviously, someone has broken up with him and only wants to be his friend, and he feels like she is just humoring him and feels as though she doesn't need him, while he dreams of her falling back in love with him. His hurt and feeling of having been betrayed is expressed when he sings the lines "your truth is just the ghost of your lies" and "I'm going to get really fucking drunk". He is oganically expressing his pain in a very human way, and no matter what anyone could say about it, his ability to express himself in so real a way (and say the things that many of us want to say really badly, at times) and to put forth his emotions honestly is amazing.

It's about how he had finally found someone to fall in love with, and he wants to protect that. "Oh Florida please be still tonight, don't disturb this love of mine." Her sleeping and him singing to her is a metaphor for protecting their love and the happiness that it is giving them, and how he wants to live forever, in the night, in that beautiful bliss, and never let that moment and that feeling leave his grasp.
