The numbing could mean that he has completely exploited the feeling of love from his heart and solemnly relies on these drugs to keep him free from it. "We can feel none of it," could exemplify that the overwhelming desire he feels from drugs means he doesn't feel anything other than a rush.

The line "we're nursing on a poison" could mean that they are taking solitude in a drug or life experience that is now having effects on them either mentally or physically.
