The speaker or the persona wanted his addressee to recall the day when they were still ten years old, playing and so innocent. The persona promised his addressee that he'd always be there no matter what. "Didn't know it back then" was the line that proved his innocence, in that moment he already had feelings for his addressee but he didn't care at that time because he was too young to think about it.

Sometimes we get to a point that we are already "tired" of the routine of our lives. We complain. We ask. We feel bored. We want to experience something new. "Scheme of things" mean our lives that are controlled by our superior, parents or society. It is supported with the line "Through with taking roads someone else designed". The line, "Through with chasing stars that soon forget to shine" reminds us of the dreams that we have yet we give up or the dreams that we know we can't reach. The last two lines are the speaker's soliloquy. The questions or the confusions that the speaker wants to be answered.

Many people think that you are already the best when you win battles here and there or defeat all the challenges you meet but far as they know you are still a human being who feels pain; you cry or you sob. People only comment what they can see you in their bare eyes but they never see who you really are. The pain you endure. The tears you shed. They expect that you are stronger than what you think about yourself. Only God knows how you feel and what you are hiding inside your heart.
