You know my old car needs washing
And the front yard needs a trim
And the telephone keeps ringing
And the bossman knows I know it's him
And the bills ain't gonna pay themselves
No matter anyway
Cause I ain't in no hurry today

There's nothing wrong with an old cane fishing pole
And the smell of early spring
Sit down in a fold-up easy chair
On a quiet shady river bank
Let the world go on without me
Wouldn't have it any other way
Cause I ain't in no hurry today

Ain't in no hurry
I'd Be a fool now to worry
About all those things I can't change
And the time that I borrow
Can wait till tomorrow
Cause I ain't in no hurry today

When I must return
To the cold cold ground
Have 'em take their time
When they lay this sinner down

Heaven knows that I ain't perfect
I've raised a little cain
And I plan to raise a whole lot more
Before I hear those angels sing
(Gonna get right with the lord)
But there'll be hell to pay
But I ain't in no hurry

Ain't in no hurry
Be a fool now to worry
About all those things I can't change
And the time that I borrow
Can wait till tomorrow
Cause I ain't in no hurry
Ain't in no hurry
Ain't in no hurry today

Well for me i think that we should trust god to take care of us and for us to do our best and try to help and be good as much as is possible for us.

No no no.. It's about that once in a while day off we all must eventually take from time to time. We live our lives in the rat race and the undue stress and sometimes you just have to take a break from it. That's all this song is saying. Slow down, forget about your troubles and go fishing. While your there think about the meaning of your own life- not anyone else's.

Don't hurry through life and enjoy what is around you today, no matter who you meet or what you are doing.

This song epitomizes the "laissez faire" attitude of facing responsibility today. The author understands full well the consequences of "live it up now - pay later" as is plain in the first verse. But the last one is the kicker, acknowledging both god and eternity there are no plans to respect the coming judgment, in fact the "oh what the heck" attitude thumbs its nose right in his direction. The effect is brilliant, as it captures precisely the general opinion of western civilization today. We acknowledge god, but we don't accept his authority personally. Sad commentary, but exceptionally accurate.

As my fiancé told me: "enjoy the ride. " in other words, don't get so focused on reaching your goal or getting to your destination that you miss the joys of getting there!
