Hands touch, eyes meet,
Sudden silence, sudden heat
Hearts leap in a giddy world.
He could be that boy,
But I'm not that girl
Don't dream too far, don't lose sight of who you are,
Don't remember that rush of joy.
He could be that boy,
I'm not that girl
Every so often we long to steal,
To the land of what might have been,
But that doesn't soften the ache we feel
When reality sets back in
Blythe smile, lithe limb
She who's winsome,
She wins him,
Gold hair with a gentle curl,
That's the girl he chose
And heaven knows,
I'm not that girl
Don't wish, don't start
Wishing only wounds the heart,
I wasn't born for the rose and the pearl,
There's a girl I know,
He loves her so,
I'm not that girl.

I can't listen to this song without crying. I'm sure at one time or another, every girl has loved a boy that's in love with another girl. I saw Wicked in Pittsburgh a month ago, and I cried like a baby when Elphaba sang this song. In my situation, the girl he's in love with isn't "superior" to me, like Glinda thought she was to Elphaba. Me and this boy are friends, and we partner dance together in our schools musical. There is just something that feels right when we're together. But he's been with this girl for nearly a year and a half, and he's in love. I'm not that girl. But something always brings me back to him.
