(written by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols)

- peaked at # 15 in 1970

Whenever I need to leave it all behind
Or feel the need to get away-ay-ay
I find a quiet place, far from the human race
Out in the country

Before the breathin' air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night-time
Out where the rivers like to run
I stand alone and take back somethin' worth rememberin'

Whenever I feel them closing in on me
Or need a bit of room to move
When life becomes too fast, I find relief at last
Out in the country

Before the breathin' air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night-time
Out where the rivers like to run
I stand alone and take back somethin' worth rememberin'

------ organ ------

Before the breathin' air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night-time
Out where the rivers like to run
I stand alone and take back somethin' worth rememberin'

Before the breathin' air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night-time
Out where the rivers like to run
I stand alone and take back somethin' worth rememberin'

Before the breathin' air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night-time
(fade)

In this busy world, we need a place... A hiding place. Somewhere we can reconnect to ourselves and the earth... Somewhere that's quiet... Peaceful. More than ever, we all need this time every day. Just be still and be quiet. So good for the soul.

Long before the so-called GLobal Warming "crisis," there was a general environmental movement, complete with a little green and white-striped flag and all kinds of tips on how to save the planet. To me, this song was a reminder of that movement but I like the song because of the tune.
