The Script – We Cry lyrics
Together we cry
Together we cry

Jenny was a poor girl, living in a rich world
Named her baby hope when she was just 14
She was hoping for a better world for this little girl
But the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree
When she gets that call, Hopes too far gone
Her baby's on the way, with nothing left inside
Together We Cry

What about the John Play, could have gone the whole way
Lighting up the stage tryna get a deal
Now he's lighting up the wrong way, something for the pain
Man you wanna see this kid he was so fuckin' unreal
When he gets that call, he's too far-gone
Can't get it together to sing one song
And they won't hear tonight, the words of a lullaby

Together We Cry X 4

Mary's ambition, she wants to be a politician
She's been dreaming about it since she was a girl
She thought, that she'd be the one who could change the world
Always tryna pave the way for women in a man's world
But life happened, house, kids, 2 cars, husband hit's the jar,
Checks that don't go very far now
Now she ain't making changes, she keeps her mind on her wages
The only rattling cages are her own

Together We Cry X 2

There so much sad gonna flood the ocean
We're all in tears for a world that's broken.

Together We Cry

The comes a time that every bird has to fly
At some point every rose has to die
It's hard to let your children go, leave home, where they go, who knows?
Gettin' drunk, gettin' stoned all alone
Teach a man to fish, feed a man for life
Show your kids the truth, and hope they never lie
Instead of reading in a letter that they've gone to something better
Bet your sorry now, I wont be coming home tonight

I'm sick of looking for those heroes in the sky
To teach us how to fly
Together we cry, we cry, we cry

Together We Cry X 2

There so much sad gonna flood the ocean
We're all in tears for a world that's broken.

"This is a song about life." Who's gonna teach us how to fly? We have to do it ourselves, the dreams we have as kids should continue to be always on the back of our minds, we should never give up because if we just wait for life to happen, in a blink your whole life can change 180 degrees. Beautiful song with beautiful lyrics. Most of us are just so idealistic in the foundation of our lives, we have so many aspirations and we just wait for it to fall from the sky, we do the minimum effort. How many wasted talents, people, humans are out there? So many people with so much to give but we seldomly realize what we have until it's gone. What happens then? "Together we cry."

I agree and disagree with all of you. Yes, this song is about life, but how life is an obstacle. All of the people depicted in the lyrics are those that had a dream at some point and although that dream is still very present in their mind, life has become an obstacle for them. The song is not about people giving up on their dreams, it is about the inability of a person to follow through with their dreams because of other more important responsibilities. "Jenny" for instance, wanted her child to live a normal life but that is an impossibility because of the circumstances, a child bore to a 14 year old mother will never live a normal life. "John" on the other hand was a top notch actor but after rejection after rejection he turned to drugs, as it would seem, and these prevented him from realizing the opportunities in front of him. Finally "Mary" she always wanted to change the world and still sets out to do it, but her family is more important than her own dreams so she stays put to be there for her husband and kids, its not that she has given up on her dreams its just that she can't accomplish them during this era of her life.

My meaning of this song. I think for me this song represents how diffrent life turns out then you are expecting. Many people take life and other material things for granted when they don't even understand the meaning of life and/or living. Its also about people aspirations and how you always do things that will affect the way you live for the rest of your life of for an important part of it.

Jenny was pregnant when she was a teenager, and named her baby hope in hopes that she wouldnt be the same. Hope ended up like her mom. I'm not sure what "john play" is, but its about a guy with some sort of musical talent, who got mixed up with drugs and smoking. Mary had big dreams for herself, but she let other things and people get in her way, so she isn't able to follow her dreams. "we cry" means to me that we are shouting out to these people whose lives have gone downhill, and letting them know they arent alone. It offers sympathy and/or empathy.

Some lines meanings. When she gets that call hopes to far gone her babys on the way - hopes ended up the same as her mother and is goin to become a young mother too - now he's lightin up the wrong way- lighting a smoke, - something for the pain- drugs to stop the feeling he's a failure,- when he gets the call. Sing one song- he's to high to do anything! He won't hear tonight the words of a lullaby- he's not just gonna sleep this oneoff coz this time it's goin kill him. That's all I can be bothered to explain. Ps I'm a close friend of danny who helped write it.

The lyrics to this song seem obvious but looking closer at the lyrics, specifically in the first section, makes me wonder. Does jenny miscarry? Or does this hopeless cycle of falling pregnant at 14 carry onto hope?
The second verse is rather obvious, a talented musician who's life has slipped into depression due to the fact he has been scouted several times but never been signed. So he goes out after one time, smokes some weed, eventually gets a call-back but is so high he can't even sing. Again a vicious cycle:/
The third is again rather obvious. It's about a girl who wanted to be a politician and always dreamed that one day she would be. But she grew up and fell upon hard economic times and now all she wants is to have a job at all.

That in the end hope shattered, dream crushed and all you can do is cry. Since there's a lot of people with similar things going on, so they'll be crying together. Haha. And that's what life is. That reality is always harder than it seems.
You know what, I love the script, but I hate this song. It's hopeless. And that scares the hell out of people. What are we without hope and dream to chase.

It's about the disappointments in life. Jenny was a teenage mother who named her daughter hope, hoping she would have a better life than jenny herself. But hope also becomes a pregnant teen and possibly had a miscarriage. So it was a hopeless vicious cycle where the actions of parents affect the mindsets of their children. Then comes a very talented struggling musician. He turns to drugs to cope with the disappointments of many failed attempts to get a record deal, but when a producer actually wants to hear him play, he's too high to do it properly, and so gets turned down again. And another vicious cycle plays out. Finally he od's and his music will never be heard. Mary was a bright and ambitious girl with dreams of being a politician and fighting for women's rights. But reality sets in, and she settles for a mundane middle-class suburban life, and ironically ends up with a husband who drinks and maybe even abuses her. Parents fear for the future of their kids, and try their hardest to teach them right so they don\'.

There is so much wrong with the world. From babies having babies in a vicious cycle, talented people throwing everyhing away for one more hit, women who had so much potential but now are struggling to survive. Everyday we look for those heroes who are supposed to fix everything, but really its up to us. Those tears we cry they are what make us realize that this world needs fixing but its the lack of anyone doing anything that makes us realize we should step together and put the tears aside to try to do something to make it better.

In dublin like everywhere else now there is a lot of sad things happening the writers of this song actually strolled through the streets of dublin whilst trying to script it. The people in the story are real including the 'john play' who actually died of drug overdose. They interviewed his parents who told the script that he wanted to be a singer but got with the wrong crowds. The girl is actually called mary in real life too and she suffers from depression. Sources: my brother is director of location management for the script. Hope that helps.
