Well the meaning in this song is quite obvious I think as the words are pretty straight forward:.
In the first verse he tells about the past where he and girl became very intimate and he fell in love. Unforturnately she eventually ended it leaving him broken hearted as so many times happens.
In the second hand he tells how he's never liked being alone (i never had a hand for solataire. Brilliant line but simply said). He also feels cheated that he came so close to winning her love but lost none the less. In the next line the writer uses some wonderful sadonic wit using the line "to help you through another night. You spelled it out in black and white" in other words she so selfish and uncaring she's more concerned about losing her guilt that comforting him.
In the final verse she comes back some time in the future later realizing that she messed up and wants him back but time has washed away his feelings. Probably 'cause he's found someone who gave him the devotion he was looking for in her. Now it's his turn to say in the last chorus, "no, I'm not interested in you anymore and that's the way it is baby!
