Crawling Towards The Sun lyrics

This song is directly related to plato's allegory of the cave. In the allegory, sunlight is the ultimate knowledge. In the (metaphoric) cave, or at night as the song portrays it, all the petty, unimportant nonsense happens. These things do not represent truth and happiness.

"night covers all our tracks
To break some fragile backs
So we tell some lies
Then we hide from light"

Once you reach the light, some things are different than what you thought they were when you were in the dark.

"candy lips that taste to sweet
Were sour in the summer heat
As the night fell i heard church bells
Say it's time to leave"

In this case he may be commenting on his idea of religion being false. As the sun (true knowledge) disappears, religious ceremony/worship begins. So he no longer participates.

The "shadows" that keep him hidden are directly related to the shadows portrayed in the allegory of the cave. Shadows are what people tell you is true but you don't actually know. Looking only at the shadows of things and not knowing what they truly are. But now he is crawling towards the knowledge.

"in the night light, we still shine bright"

This refers to the belief that once you have been enlightened, being put back into the cave (or back into the night), you still are enlightened. You know the truth. Now it is your duty to enlighten others, but it will be hard seeing as they are so stubborn to believe anything new.

I am having trouble defining the "creatures" but if he has been released from the dark it is possible these creatures are people still hypnotized by it. These creatures still don't understand his enlightenment. Or maybe they could be previously enlightened people (since they stand above him). Whatever you think.

"one night i fell asleep and woke up on that sunny street
At first i thought i couldn't but now i see"

Notice he couldn't "see" or know until he woke up on that "sunny street. "

Judge for yourself but i think this could be a direct representation of plato's allegory of the cave. (don't even get me started on the cave by mumford and sons) open your eyes people, this is just as representative as that, although it doesn't have the allegory in the title..
