The Forest Rangers – Come Join The Murder lyrics

There's a blackbird perched outside my window
I hear him calling
I hear him sing
He burns me with his eyes of gold to embers
He sees all my sins
He reads my soul

[Pre-Chorus]
One day that bird, he spoke to me
Like Martin Luther
Like Pericles

[Chorus]
Come join the murder
Come fly with black
We'll give you freedom
From the human trap
Come join the murder
Soar on my wings
You'll touch the hand of God
And He'll make you king
And He'll make you king

On a blanket made of woven shadows
Flew up to heaven
On a raven's glide
These angels have turned my wings to wax now
I fell like Judas from grace tonight

[Pre-Chorus]
On that day that he lied to me
Like Martin Luther
Like Pericles

[Chorus]
Come join the murder
Come fly with black
We'll give you freedom
From the human trap
Come join the murder
Soar on my wings
You'll touch the hand of God
And He'll make you king
And He'll make you king

I walk among the children of my fathers
The broken wings, betrayal's cost
They call to me but never touch my heart, no
I am too far
I'm too lost

[Pre-Chorus]
All I can hear is what he spoke to me
Like Martin Luther
Like Pericles

[Chorus]
Come join the murder
Come fly with black
We'll give you freedom
From the human trap
Come join the murder
Soar on my wings
You'll touch the hand of God
And He'll make you king
And He'll make you king

[Guitar Interlude]

So now I curse that raven's fire
You made me hate, you made me burn
He laughed aloud as he flew from Eden
You always knew, you never learn

[Pre-Chorus]
The crow no longer sings to me
Like Martin Luther
Or Pericles

[Chorus]
Come join the murder
Come fly with black
We'll give you freedom
From the human trap
Come join the murder
Soar on my wings
You'll touch the hand of God
And He'll make you king
And He'll make you king

Come join the murder
Come fly with black
We'll give you freedom
From the human trap
Come join the murder
Soar on my wings
You'll touch the hand of God
And He'll make you king
And He'll make you king

This song was written by Kurt Sutter, creator of Son's of Anarchy. It is referring to joining the murder of crows- SAMCRO that is "Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original". It is the offer of the outlaw biker life that will provide freedom from the normal human life. Jax, the main character in the show, suffered from this. He struggled with his soul being pulled two ways, between his family and sons and his motorcycle club. Throughout most of the show he believed he could steer the club in the right direction, as if the crow was speaking to him (his father). He then realized his life was too far gone, and it was up to him to make sure his sons avoid this life, hence the crow has stopped speaking to him. The life that the motorcycle club has provided has turned what could have been a good man into someone full of hate, it taught him hatred and murder and he did not want to pass this down to his sons.

The song is about the crow telling him to basically turn to the dark side of morality. Come fly with black, free of the human trap. At the end he realizes that he was tricked. He has been taught how to hate. And the crow no longer talks to him because he has his soul already, that his soul is lost, and he flies away laughing knowing the Jax's soul will burn in hell.

To me this song is a conversation between Jax and the fallen Sons. The verses are Jax's words while the chorus are the voices of Tara, Opie, Bobby, Half Sack, JT, and Otto telling him that everything is going to be okay and to just let go and join them. The human trap is Jax's earthly body, the crows tell him that if he joins them then they will free him from it and he can soar with them for all eternity. As the song progresses Jax realizes that he can no longer save himself but he can, in turn, save his sons by sacrificing himself. I also think the raven that is referenced throughout the sang is meant to be Gemma and Clay. They lied to him and led him astray for most of his life and when he finally stopped listening to them he realized that his life was screwed beyond repair. At the end when Jax puts his arms up and he becomes at peace with the monster he had become and let all of his problems go since he knew he set the club up on the straight and narrow and also lead his sons away from the outlaw life.

The first verse describes Jax's relationship with his father; in which it discusses how Jax feels that his father is watching him, seeing how far he has fallen into SAMCRO. This is not the life that JT wanted for Jax, and therefore Jax feels the burden of his sins.
The pre chorus is JT speaking to Jax from his journals, which help show Jax what SAMCRO could have been, in the hope that Jax can carry out his wishes and turn SAMCRO into a legitimate business.
This is followed by the chorus in which Jax hears all of his fallen friends, calling to him to join the "murder" of crows (the fallen members of SAMCRO). By joining them, he is escaping the life he once lived, as he had changed in to a violent criminal, and therefore sacrificed himself; knowing that his sons will not follow in his path.
The second verse deals with Jax battling between his devotion to his family and his love of SAMCRO, and therefore becoming increasingly unstable because of this. He no longer knows where he belongs.
The third verse discusses Jax's relationship with the members of SAMCRO, "the children of my fathers", with whom he has been through all of his struggles with. The still try to help Jax, but Jax knows that he has fallen too far, becoming something which he is not.
The final verse deals with Jax's relationship with Gemma and Clay; who both pulled Jax deeper into SAMCRO, ensuring that he did not become like his father.
The final pre chorus is Jax turning his back on SAMCRO, in order to go and join his fallen friends; whilst also ensuring that his "sons" both his biological sons, and the remaining members of SAMCRO do not follow in his path.

To me this song means the full circle of the show. From the 1st series to the last it depicts it magnificently in the 7 minute song.
I guess in the end, it shows how's lost he was and how wrong is never right and the realization he comes to through is children.
He went the same way as his father but saved his kids unlike his dad.
    RIP Sons of Anarchy.
