Anything at all
But you know I can't stop
It's life on the moon
All this talk of giving up
Life is too short
For it not to be true
The best ideia I think
Is for me to go my way...

Anything at all
But you don't want me to change
Hard to understand
When a plan is this strange
And like is too big
Yeah it has to be true
Oh the best ideia I think
Is for me to go my way...

If all that you want
Is how it could be
You may as well go now
There's no wait and see...

Anything at all
But don't ask me to fade
You have to accept
I can't ever play safe
Life is too real
For it not to be true
Oh the best ideia I think
Is fot me to go my way...

If all that you want
Is how it could be
You may as well go
No there's no wait to see
It will always be wrong
If all I won't give
Is all that you want
It's a strange way
To live and let live
When all that you do
Is measure me up
Falling shorter than you
It's a strange way to love
All this 'be as I want'
When I know that you know
I can't fade
Change
Or stop

So anything at all
But you know I won't choose
If all you could win
Is all I would lose
When life is too rare
Yeah it has to be true
The best idea I think
Is for me to go my way

This song so masterfully describes the relationship between me and my husband.

He is not only emotionally abusive but also he is a very skilled manipulator. He can degrade me in 1,000 different ways, each of them carried out in an equally cloaked manner so that there is never any evidence that he is doing it. Likewise, it seems like the more preoccupied i am, the more he does it; the less preoccupied i am, the less he does it - as if he knows exactly when to do it and how much to do - always staying just below my radar. It makes me crazy and exhausted.

It is not just a few "isolated incidents" but rather it is in his behavior - as if it is an extension of his very personality - it is in everything he says and in everything he does. He wants me to be something that i am not and does not want me to grow, and never allows me to do anything that he would consider as "non-compliant" to this.

No matter what i say or do he twists it around so that he can "pigeon hole" me into this dull, stagnant, sub-standard person that he wants me to be. Occasionally he "throws me a crumb" and compliments me to make me think that he is supportive, but i know better than that now - it can't be sincere in the midst of all his abusiveness.

This song so beautifully and accurately articulates what it has been like to be on the receiving end of his ugly and oppositional-defiant behavior - something that i have been unable to describe in our entire 15-year relationship... A relationship that i am currently in the process of ending. The words are outstandingly artistic and powerful, and are matched only by the performance itself.

What perfect timing for me to hear it right now. It is helping me to keep my perspective and ultimately get through this.

    My sincerest thanks,
