This is song is basically about loving a boy and wanting so bad to tell him, but you're afraid of what he'll make of it, what he'll make of you. You're afraid if you tell him, you'll lose him, eventhough he was never yours. You want to tell him how much he means to you, how much you love him, but instead you say 'nevermind', because you're tired of fighting for him when you know he'll never be yours.
And this pretty much sums up my life perfectly right now.

This song is a such a major contrast compared to her song speak now because speak now is all about how you should say what you need/want to say and not hold it in because you may never get the chance to tell your loved ones how you feel. This song on the other hand is very different because taylor swift is saying "oh never mind i can't say it" because she's scared about what could happen if she says the wrong thing and she isn't loved back.
