Strawbs – Josephine, For Better Or For Worse lyrics

The years have left their mark
And time must be to blame
To me you're still the same
Josephine, for better or for worse.

I thought that I would stay
Always young and free
But now you're part of me
Josephine, for better or for worse.

For richer, for poorer
To honour and obey
For better or for worse
You're still the same today ... Josephine.

Sometimes our way of life
Has gone against the grain
Yet somehow you remain
Josephine, for better or for worse.

The song was written many years ago by Dave Cousins about a good friend who had a little too much to drink at a pub with Dave and some friends. They didn't want him getting home alone in the state he was in, so they got him to his front door, rang the bell and scurried away. A few nights later, the fellow walks into the pub where Dave was, and they sit down near him. Dave thinks he's in for scolding from the wife, so he turns to them and apologizes for that night. The fellow responds, "no need to apologize, we've been married for over 24 years. We love each other as much today as we did back then"! Dave Cousins thought this was such a wonderfully romantic couple, it inspired him to write the ever beautiful "JOSEPHINE".
