yeah it's really hard to figure out what this song really is about, I would think, it's perhaps about someone who shut himself away from the world, though not because he is so different than the others around him, maybe he has just seen things that changed him and maybe (once again) made him even hate himself, made his world become dead and cold.
I don't really know, guess you can never know, if that's what they are trying to say with this song, but I really think it's about somebody who has seen/done something and turned his back to the world, deciding that he doesn't deserve to be with other people anymore.
