Rob Gardner – Is This Not Enough? lyrics

NARRATION (Woman)
When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people
Took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: And when they had bound
Him, they led him away, and delivered him to be tried of Pontius Pilate the
Roman Governor.

PILATE
Ye have brought this man unto me,
As one that perverteth the people:
And behold, I have examined him before you,
And I have found no fault in him,
No, nothing for which death is worthy!
I will therefore chastise him and release him.
Take him to be scourged!
Now, this is enough!

CHOIR (In Aramaic)
Ha! Ha gabra!
(Behold the Man! )
Emrah dallahha!
(The Lamb of God)
Losapeqleh? Ha gabra!
(Is this not enough?)

PILATE
Enough! Enough! Behold, Is this not enough?
Behold, the Man, the punishment He's bourne,
The cruel whip, the mocking scorn...

ACCUSER
Away with him!

PILATE
His crimes have seen enough!

FALSE WITNESS
Away with Him!

PILATE
Why? What evil hath He done?

ACCUSER AND FALSE WITNESS
If thou let this man go,

ACCUSER
Thou art no friend, but Ceasar's foe!
FALSE WITNESS
Thou art but Ceasar's foe!

JOHN
They see His pain.
They see Him suffer.
And still they cry out for His blood with no compassion.

PILATE
For the Feast I must release one prisoner!
CHOIR (MEN In Aramaic, WOMEN Ooooing)
Sskulaihi lehhana!
(Away with him! )
JOHN
He bears it all
PILATE
Whom shall I release then
CHOIR (MEN In Aramaic, WOMEN Ooooing)
Lebaraba
(Barabbas)
Shkulaihi lehhana!
(Away with him! )
JOHN
O Lord, How long 'til Thou wilt cry "It is enough"?
PILATE
What shall I do then with Jesus!

MARY (Mother of Jesus)
Enough! Is this not enough?
O Lord, my God, Show mercy on my Son!
Has not thy will in this been done?

PILATE
Speak now: Hast thou not had enough?

MARY (Mother of Jesus)
Has not the bitter cup been emptied?

PILATE
Art thou a King then? Tell me...

MARY (Mother of Jesus)
Is not this enough?

PILATE
Knowest Thou not that I have power to crucify Thee?
And by that same power can release Thee?
And speakest Thou not unto me!

CHOIR (In Aramaic)
Emrah dallahha,
(The Lamb of God, )

JOHN
He sees their scorn.

CHOIR (In Aramaic-Sopranos and Tenors)
Ha emrah dallahha
(Behold the Lamb of God)
Emrah, Emrah dallahha, dallahha
(The Lamb, the Lamb of God, of God)
CHOIR (In Aramaic-Altos and Basses)
Sheetah, sheetah hu,

Makika, makika kiban hu saba,
(He was rejected our pains He carried, )

PILATE
What shall I do then with this Jesus?
This Jesus ye call Christ?
What evil hath He done?
Behold your King!
Shall I crucify your King!
FALSE ACCUSER
Let him be crucified
Let him be crucified
He made himself the Son of God
We have no king but Ceasar!
JOHN
He feels their hatred.

O Lord, how long 'til Thou wilt cry "It is enough"?
