    This song is about having to reparent yourself. He literally is talking to his child-self, promising to keep him safe and provide for his needs. It's about having to reconnect to yourself and give yourself what your parents didn't. He's bringing his child-self out of the trauma and pain. The music video is the same as well.

    The music video also reflects the meaning of the song where a guy has a son with an ex-GF and longs to be with his son. And the video shows how the new bf of his Ex maltreats the girl and is a threat to his son's welfare too. So the lyrics shows "protect you from all the obscene". And I think the guy's inspiration for living is his son in the video.

    When I younger my dad dedicated this song to me so to all of you people that can't figure out what one little song means I will just tell you.
    This song is about the mom taking the little boy or otherwise their kid away from him (the dad). And then he goes on describing how he feels, how he thinks the mom had an advantage, and what his son means to him. And then he also describes in the middle that their may be an ocean in between them but its not very far. He states that because no matter what his son will always be in his heart.
    And if I could figure that out and I'm only 15 then almost anyone should be able to figure it out. Even though I have wrote quite a few songs it shouldn't matter.

    My dad told me that this song is about his son and how he was taken away from him by the fed. He obviously wants him to come back to him and take away the pain. I definately thought at first this song was about a boy/girl ill-fated relationship but I see what my dad was talking about. Anywayss I love the song! Does anyone else see my point?

    Once a close guy friend who I eventually liked over time, this was his favorite song & him being 8 yrs older than me, I didn't notice this song before & only liked it after reading the lyrics w/c is reminiscent to what's happening to us. We are in a world where we've been fooled & been unfortunate in relationships (1st paragraph) and then we found each other. We realized we have a strong & deep connection. Literally, the distance of our countries is the only hindrance & the lyrics "oceans between us but that's not very far". Seems so hurtful when I hear it. At times I feel the distance is not so far whenever we talk but it pains me that I always keep wondering "what he's doing & where he is". Eventually we have to stop liking & talking to each other since we're both suffering in this long distance relationship. And now I'm trying to learn how to play this in guitar & hope one day I could play this for him personally. :(

    I fell in - love with a man who sang this to me after making mad passionate love together. Even though, we were in bed at my sisters' place, because I stayed there to get over him. I will always and forever wish there were not "oceans between us". Despite being neighbors, there are emotional oceans that separate us. I wish we could meet half way at a deserted island and make love forever and ever. Amen!

    I will always think of one special person when I hear this song.
    A guy and I had a very close flirting/friend relationship for several years but never hooked up because of many reasons the main one being distance. He ended up moving across the nation from me. We continued to have a close relationship, but I couldn't handle falling for him and not being able to be with him so I ended it. We did this twice. He has his own lil family which began in less than 6 months(rushed). After we starting talking again(online) I feel as though he feels this way about me and wishes we couldve takin everything back because we had something special. We both have regrets and now have to live with the pain of not being together.

    Love him always. Until we me again my long lost. Forever in my heart and soul not complete with out you. Never forget all of our fun time together. My heart was touched so much when I was told this song reminds him of me. Although we did not have children together we shared a love for one another people don't let 3 decades go by. Roost life.

    There's this really special girl who will always be in my heart. Though I'm in Alberta, Canada and you being in Nova Scotia, Canada we have this connection that will never go away. Being so far apart makes my heart scream to you and hope one day you'll hear it. Maybe one day that will reach you. Rachael, this song will always remind me of you. Until we meet again, you're always in my heart.
