Ma chambre a la forme d'une cage
Le soleil passe son bras par la fenкtre
Les chasseurs а ma porte
Comme les p'tits soldats
Qui veulent me prendre

Me rend malade

Je ne veux pas travailler
Je ne veux pas dйjeuner
Je veux seulement l'oublier
Et puis je fume

Je ne suis pas fiиre de зa
Vie qui veut me tuer
C'est magnifique кtre sympathique
Mais je ne le connais jamais

Je ne veux pas travailler
Non
Je ne veux pas dйjeuner
Je veux seulement l'oublier
Et puis je fume

Je ne suis pas fiиre de зa
Vie qui veut me tuer
C'est magnifique кtre sympathique
Mais je ne le connais jamais

Je ne veux pas travailler
Non
Je ne veux pas dйjeuner
Je veux seulement l'oublier
Et puis je fume

"the shoes at my door" is an incorrect translation.
Shoes are spelled "chaussures" in french, whereas the lyrics state: "chasseurs" (which could be 'soldiers,' 'hunters,' or more likely 'bellhops'--as in a hotel).

The more correct meaning is likely a woman is languishing all day in a hotel, wanting to forget a lover and declining all invitations to leave her room/cage.

Further into the song, i misheard the lyric as, "je veux seulement oublier" (i just want to forget)--making me think the song was about a prostitute who in order to forget her problems was, without any pleasure or pride, taking on men and smoking after sex.

I didn't hear the "l" in the "l'oublier" (i just want to forget it/him) changing the meaning to smoking to pass the time and to forget about the ex-lover. Languishing all day in the room, and not being active, is what she is not proud of.

My room is like a jail cell
The sun reaches his arm through the window
    The shoes at my door
    Like little soldiers
    Who want to take me

    I don't want to work
    I don't want to eat
I just want to forget it all
    And then i smoke.

I've already known the perfume of love
A million roses wouldn't smell as much
Now one single flower in my room
    Makes me sick

    I don't want to work
    I don't want to eat
I just want to forget it all
    And then i smoke.

    I'm not proud of it
Life that wants to kill me
    It's wonderful to be nice
    But i've never known friendliness

    I don't want to work
    No
    I don't want to eat
I just want to forget it all
    And then i smoke.

    I'm not proud of it
Life that wants to kill me
    It's wonderful to be nice
    But i've never known friendliness

    I don't want to work
    No
    I don't want to eat
I just want to forget it all
    And then i smoke.
