The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path
The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in my hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon
The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'till I'm sane
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

"I can't think of anything to say except...
I think it's marvellous! HaHaHa!"

In the context of the entire rock opera--the story of Pink, it's actually quite different. Most people who only hear one song think that it's about beating the drag of mainstream society. In fact, it is about Pink trying to escape the social wall his mother has put around him.

Exactly; the song seems to refer to the late Sid Barrett, founding band member who had a psychotic break due in part to excessive use of LSD and also schizophrenia. This song questions what we conceive of as being real, what we consider to be sanity, what we validate as consensual reality.

This song represents the supposed crazy persons thoughts about what the doctor is doing to him, and that he thinks the doctor is in-fact the lunatic, read the following lines.
" the lunatic is in my head, the lunatic is in my head.
You raise the blade, you make the change, you re-arrange me 'till I'm sane "
And also "you lock the door.
And throw away the key" referring to the doctor/warden.
There's someone in my head but it's not me!

    Think about it.

It's about shizophrenia, and how unfamilliar voices are in his head. The song is about an ex band member who had to leave because of a mental breakdown, and roger walters is saying that he will see him on the dark side of the moon, because he believes that he will eventually go mad too.
