how can this song be about school shootings... "camo, risk my life, serve the greater good, take a life so others may live"? i dont see how thats anywhere close...in my opinion i agree with what otiz lantz said bout the desk and teacher lines. when i hear those lines i think of all my friends who stayed at home goin to college while i joined the US Army to serve as no doubt a INFANTRYMAN... this song is clearly about soldiers and The Offsprings earned like a million F IN cool points for making it

I feel the meaning to the words are pretty serious. The soldiers(teachers) are protecting us(children) from harm. We should be happy that they lay their lives down to keep us safe, no matter what they need to do. The reprecutions they suffer for us is deadly, and as far as Columbine goes, are you serious? I feel the band is making us aware of reality of the feelings of the soldiers. My support goes out to them.
