I am the one,
Camouflage and guns,
Risk my life
To keep my people from harm
Authority,
Vested in me
I sacrifice
With my brothers in arms
Through this doorway,
What's on the other side?
Never knowing
Exactly what I'll find
Locked and loaded
Voices screaming
Let's go!
Come on do it!
Here we go
I'll take a life
That others may live
Oh that's just the way it goes
I'll shut my eyes
It hammers in my head
Where it'll end
Nobody knows
I'll take a life
That others may live
Oh that's just the way it goes
It's playing over and over in my head
Where it'll end
Nobody knows
Stay the course
Reasonable force
I believe I serve a greater good
Smoke and dust
Enemies are crushed
Nothing left
Where a man once stood [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/o/offspring/hammerhead.html ]
Through this doorway,
What's on the other side?
Never knowing
Exactly what I'll find
Locked and loaded,
Voices screaming
Let's go
I'm just doing what I'm told
I'll take a life
That others may live
Oh that's just the way it goes
Shut my eyes
It hammers in my head
Where it'll end
Nobody knows
I'll take this life
Ten others may live
Oh that's just the way it goes
It's playing over and over in my head
Where it begins
And where it'll end
Nobody knows
Bang, bang, It hammers in my head!
Bang, bang, It hammers in my head!
Bang, bang, It hammers in my head!
In my head
In my head
Yea though I walk to the through the valley of the
Shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
For Thou art with me
Locked and loaded
Gonna find my truth now
I'm busting through
All hell breaks loose
And you can all hide behind your desks now
And you can cry 'teacher come help me! '
Through you all
My aim is true!

This song is about a school shooting.
Its about a guy who's delusional, and imagines himself as a soldier saving others by killing students. "bang bang it hammers in my head. "
Hell look at the last lines "you can all hide behind your desks, and you can cry teacher come and help me! "

This song is about the military. That is fairly obvious to any one who cares to listen. If you take the line "bang, bang, it hammers in my head! " something is repeating inside of his head. The few lines before this it seems justified to take the life of another so 10 more can live. This asks the question, is it right to kill regardless of the situation? This brings to light, what the military is doing in any given war.
Ok... They said themselves that this is about a classroom shooting. Like previously stated so perfectly, it's about the fact that soldiers are trained to kill, and they have trouble adapting back to "normal" life. So, it turns out, they end up becoming school-shooters. Kind of sad, actually.
I think he is saying the american army is corrupt in the sense that we brain wash our army to make them believe that what they are doing is ethical and there is nothing wrong with what they are doing for example the lyric "stay the course reasonable force i believe i serve the great the good. Enemies are crushed nothing left where a man once stood" and "voices screaming lets go im just doing what im told" and the video furthers my point that if you dont do what your told your dead.
How can this song be about school shootings... "camo, risk my life, serve the greater good, take a life so others may live"? I dont see how thats anywhere close... In my opinion i agree with what otiz lantz said bout the desk and teacher lines. When i hear those lines i think of all my friends who stayed at home goin to college while i joined the us army to serve as no doubt a infantryman... This song is clearly about soldiers and the offsprings earned like a million f in cool points for making it
You are all entitled to your own interpretations, but the song is actually about school shootings and not the military. Read this article:
According to singer/guitarist dexter holland, the song is about school shootings. [4] this is supported by the closing lyrics "and you can all hide behind your desks now/and you can cry teacher come help me". Lead guitarist kevin 'noodles' wasserman elaborated on this, stating that the initial lyrics are from the perspective of a soldier who believes that everything he does is for the greater good - "take a life that others may live". He is affected by a huge force (hammerhead - "it hammers in my head") in his mind that makes him deluded. [5] the true nature of the song - that the narrator is actually a school shooter - is only revealed towards the end.
