All the people on the village green
Have gathered round their TV screens
To hear the government about speak
For solider boys and Jesus freaks
They go on heaven on their holidays
The congregation hopes and prays
They leave their letters in the mail box
For lonely souls they could not save

Off and on I used hear the call
When she was just a baby doll
And all around them were the holy men
Will twist the word of way back when
She will kiss the sky and shelter all the world from the rain
Put on a record on the jukebox
And she might dance the night away

On and on we go
But the restless world outside
May soon explode
And there's no place we might hide?

On and on we go
But the rest of the world outside
May soon explode
And there is no place we might hide?
And on and on we go 'til we kiss this world goodbye?
On and on and on and on...

All the people on the village green
Have gathered round their TV screens
To hear the government about speak
About solider boys and Jesus freaks

To the guy above... Terms like "soldier boys" and "jesus freaks" are colloquialisms, used by lots of people. Noel was not being surgical with the word boy or freak

Really like this song, if i were to think about it too much, or anyone to that matter, we'd look far too into the meaning. All i can say is i find it gorgeously patronising when he sings soldier boys and jesus freaks. Calling someone a boy is as if to say they our out of their depth too soon and a freak is possible an obsessed maniac.

There are those who twist the words of the bible, and there are great bible scholars who study the language and text. Too bad these great teachers don't get as much attention. Look up tim keller and/or john macarthur. One day we'll all 'kiss this world good-bye' so i like to pry myself from the tv and government speak now and then and read some words that are everlasting. Matthew 24:35
Gallagher often points to unanswered questions, unresolved circumstances... Searching. Fearful and unsteady... Keep searching for answers my friends.
