This is about a guy whos had some troubles and is just trying to leave a mark in the world and about being ashamed to be in love

This song is about their drinking and drug problems and where they were left from them. How when they're drunk they pass out places n no one likes it (first three verses) how it's drug other ppl into it (juliet loves a beat and the lust it commands, drop the dagger and lather the blood on your hands romeo) how much they love it but in the end it destroies them (main verse and second verse)

The song means, basically... Uh... Some dude was numbing his sadness of his she-friend leaving with alcohol (most of the song, anyway). "i've really been on a bender and it shows
so why don't you blow me a kiss before she goes? "
the bender is his drinking problem because of his sadness.

And the romeo and juliet part? I don't even know.

At the end, does he say "who are you" or does he just say "ooh ooh yeah"? I can never tell. This song is awesome. I read in their biography that it's about gerard's addiction. I'm so proud of him for getting clean!! Xo

Twilightandfob, like zolo9 said, this has nothing to do with the twilight series. It says something about vampires, yes, but it's a metephor and some of the band members like vampires, so they chose to use vampires in that particular metephor. Nothing to do with twilight.

This is what i think the verse means:

A light to burn all the empires
so bright the sun is ashamed to rise and be
in love with all of these vampires
so you can leave like the sane abandoned me

The sun is supposed to be the thing to destroy vampires, but it says that the sun loves all these vampires, yet is ashamed of that. So what i'm thinking is that someone who would naturally look down on you, or try to make you miserable, finds that they actually like you, but they aren't really that happy about it. Like maybe when gerard first came out and said "hey, i have a problem, and i want to kill myself" his manager talked him through it over the phone until gerard was sober enough, then had him wake up the tour manager and take a walk with him. And the tour manager was a straight edge, as in, no drugs or alcohol or sex. And so you'd think he'd look down on gerard and everything, but he didn't, he helped him without criticising him. But that's a total and complete guess, and i wouldn't count on it to be right.

I kind of agree with depth, but also with devy. Like my idea of the meaning is kind of a mix of their ideas.

I think it's about gerard's drug and alcohol problem. Like he said in an interview, he felt that the only way he could be "stage gerard" was to be drunk or drugged. So he feels that when he is drinking or doing drugs that it's the real him, the "stage him", his favorite personality maybe. And in the day you don't usually drink, so that could be the whole 'wearing a mask in the day' thing depth was talking about.

So that's what i think. I can relate, and i love the lyrics, the beat, and the way gerard sings it. All around, an awesome song.

Twilightandfob- i've read the twilight series (so has almost everybody else) and i'm pretty sure most would agree this has nothing to do with any of the characters.

I can compare this song to everybody's fool by evanescence... Not that very much similar with the song of evanescence but just a little bit...
