Sifting through the broken glass
The echoes of my ancient past
Came flooding into every pore
Like scattered seeds of sycamore
Suddenly I started wondering how I got here

Was it a matter of timing?

Catholic school, my private hell
I stuttered 'til the age of twelve
Discovered sex at seventeen
And soon thereafter self-esteem
The days did not matter and years were a lifetime away

Drowning in a heavy stock
Of teenage girls and indie rock
I flunked out of each college course
And set my sails for no remorse
The nights were for nowhere and that's where I wanted to be

Someone said, It's not a matter of time, it's just a matter of timing.
Do you ever wonder how you got to here?
It's not a matter of time, it's just a matter of timing.
Do you ever wonder how you got to here?

Branded, marked, and paper-thin
This angry scene went marching in
To war with scores of 90 proof
Found nothing but the ugly truth
A decade of wastage an instant and everything's changed

Woke up feeling thirty-five
Though grateful that I'm still alive
Another chance at normalcy
To chase the dream and now it seems
The days run away like wild horses over the hills

Someone said, It's not a matter of time, it's just a matter of timing
Do you ever wonder how you got to here?
It's just a matter of timing
It's not a matter of time, it's just a matter of timing.
Do you ever wonder how you got to here?

Take it in and hold on while you can
All the destruction will one day end
And you'll finally know exactly who you are

It's just a matter of timing
Do you ever wonder how you got to here?
It's just a matter of timing
It's not a matter of time, it's just a matter of timing.
Do you ever wonder how you got to here?
It's just a matter of timing
It's not a matter of time, it's just a matter of timing.
Do you ever wonder how you got to here?
Do you ever wonder how you got to here?

In my Warfare class just before, we discussed peace and freedom and invasions and justification for war.
I commented on something saying something like "we shouldnt invade another country under any flag or while representing any nation, but instead we would help those in need as citizens of the world." (in some weird idealist dream)
So things went on and I thought about that idea and why I think that way. From all the wickedness in the world, why do I think we need to act peacefully or without war and think of ourselves as one community and not distant from one another. Good thing I'm here thinking this right? it's a matter of time somebody said something and did something about this!

But, then I stopped myself. Are we ever separate from culture and our any of our ideas really ever our own? Of course not. Our ideas...we got them from somewhere or someone else. In the grand scheme of things, I was bound to grow up and have these ideas at this point in time. There's more like me and it's just a matter of timing that these kids who think they are renegades think that way.

So, it's not that I came here on my own and it's a freaking good things that I did. it's really that due to the way culture works, it's just timing that my thoughts developed and my body grew to be the way it is. it's not a matter of time... just a matter of timing.

So with that, I will offer my opinion of the song.. though it's basically all that I just said. How did he get here in his seemingly personal and unique life? Well, that life he described isn't completely unique. I've met Justin before and he seems to think along the lines of... we just happen and things work the way they do just because that's how the universe is. There's no further questioning. The end.

The ultimate commentary on one's lives and dreams. Sometimes things seem coincidental, but the lyrics suggest it's the seizing of an opportunity as opposed to the moment finding the individual. Furthermore, the song emphasizes an overall theme of one's mortality and the fact that each path, while unique, cannot be replaced, only altered. Truly a touching song to all who have chased a dream.

People say the future is just a matter of time. However having good or bad timing on an event is what makes it. Find a good job? It wasn't bound to happen because of time, you had good timing that they were taking applications and had less suitable applicants.

To me this means its not about how much time you have its how you spend that time and making life count. It also seems he is reciting his life so far giving the name timelines its usual name rather than a line that runs through time which you follow =)

I think "scene" should be saint. He's referring to himself as a "saint" kind of sarcastically because he went to catholic school. A scene can't really march.
