The song was created transcendentally in tongues by Andrew Wood. It's about his feelings towards his girlfriend and his battle with his heroine drug addiction. Andrew was fighting his heroine addiction and attempting to stay clean and then when he would fall off of the wagon, come down off of his high and he would call his loving and devoted girlfriend Julie Ann who's nickname is "Xana" who would always go back and be with Andrew and they would spend time together while he collected his thoughts with Xana while being Andrew's sounding board ;-)
