Floating the room
Two by two
From the womb
To the holiday
There is no holiday
First double-cross her heart
He wants to start a family
Needing something to go on

If she weren't writing in blood
She'd bring him her jokes
A new liver
And a shovel for the mud
If he were not knee-deep in mud
He'd bring her his drugs
He'd get her a typewriter

If this is the life
Why does it feel so good to die today?
Blue to gray
Grow up and blow away...

If this is the life
Why does it feel so good to die today?
Blue to gray
Grow up and blow away...

Nobody knows which street to take
He took the easy
What was the easy way?
First double-cross her heart
He wants to start a family
She always thought she would not.

If she weren't writing in blood
She'd bring him her jokes
A new liver
And a shovel for the mud
If he were not knee-deep in mud
He'd bring her his drugs
He'd get her a typewriter

If this is the life
Why does it feel so good to die today?
Blue to gray
Grow up and blow away...

If this is the life
Why does it feel so good to die today?
Blue to gray
Grow up and blow away...

First double-cross her heart
He wants to start a family
Her body is the baby.

If this is the life
Why does it feel so good to die today?
Blue to gray
Grow up and blow away...

If this is the life
Why does it feel so good to die today?
Blue to gray
Grow up and blow away...

Blue to gray
Grow up and blow away...
Blue to gray
Grow up and blow away...
Blue to gray
Grow up and blow away...
Blue to gray
Grow up and blow away...

I think this song is about a couple where the girl doesn't want to have a baby but the guy does. He was going to try and impregnate her during the holidays (cause that's when most people do it, happy moments and all) but there's no holiday's for them cause their so unhappy. So he decides to make her swear to give him a baby (double cross her heart= cross you're heart and hope to die).

So then it goes onto say that if she weren't writing in blood (crossing her heart and hoping to die) she'd distract him with jokes, give him a liver (representing letting go of something else) or give him a shovel for the mile (I think this means kill him and bury him with the shovel) just to avoid the baby.

Then it goes on to say "if he weren't knee deep in mud" . I think that means that if he wasn't stuck in the same position in life with no where to go, he'd be happier (bring her his jokes) or give her a typewriter (so she wouldn't have to write in blood/swear to have a baby).

The which street to take probably refers to whether or not they should live for a family or go after their commercial dreams (being a doctor, lawyer what ev..) so he took the easy way (getting married and having kids is a lot easier than being a doctor) but then he realised is girl doesn't want kids so it's like "was this really the easy way?" (What was the easy way)

Now it starts talking about "if this is the life...". I think she's referring to the fact that the couple found "love" (and usually that's what people equate to a good life) but they're not still not happy. For her, she'd rather die than have a baby, and for him, he'd rather die than be stuck in a seeminly pointless life. (why does it feel so good to die today)

The blue to grey refers to the blue skies of the happy times spiraling down to the grey skies of their current situation.

Grow up and blow away refers to all their dreams and aspirations of when they were little. As they grew up, they realised it was harder than they originally thought so their dreams blew away. And that also refers back to the whole "easy way" thing.
