this song is about one person being naive to reality, whatever that may be and the speaker is forgiving them for their inability to face reality. The speaker is helping the person back into the "real world", whatever that may be and is letting them know that he/she is there for them. The speaker also lets it be known that he/she is not mad at the person, but just trying to help the person out.
This song clearly has to be about him wanting to remain friends with his ex, despite their failed relationship. Maybe he feels like "Mr. Pitiful" for trying to hold on to some type of relationship. And the ex is not fessing up to her wrongness within that relationship, and is sitting high and mighty.
