Maybe he is talking about references to the Spiritual Battle that the Bible references and the silent war that we all battle inside between right and wrong. References to God's Armor seem to be strewn through the lyrics as well -See Ephesians 6. We won't ever win the war...but God has already defeated Satan through Jesus. He's already won the battle...Truth is what we all fight for inside. Belief is powerful thing...it can destroy if we have the wrong Truth inside.

i have to agree with ChrisFishA-CrossRiff, i think it's about war but i don't think religion destroys everything. belief is a powerful thing, and people do fight over religion. but people should still believe in their own religion as strongly as before, they just don't need to fight over it. it's not worth killing people for, they should be allowed to believe what they want to. i don't agree that religion "poisons" anything. but i like this song a lot, and john mayer is amazing:)
This is obviously about war. But I wonder if he's talking about our war on terrorism or the war between Israel and Iraq because we're not in the fight for a religious belief, and he seems to lean toward that being the reason for the war.
It's a wonderful song... but would have to disagree with my mentor in saying that sometimes belief can be the strongest weapon for anything, even winning a war.
