What If God Was One Of Us lyrics

Lyrics

Joan Osborne What If God Was One Of Us lyrics

If God had a name what would it be?
And would you call it to his face?
If you were faced with him
In all his glory
What would you ask if you had just one question?

And yeah, yeah, God he is great
Yeah, yeah, God he is good
Yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah

What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home

If God had a face what would it look like?
And would you wanna to see
If seeing meant that
You would have to believe
In things like heaven and in Jesus and the saints
And all the prophets

And yeah, yeah, God he is great
Yeah, yeah, God he is good
Yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah

What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home

Trying to make his way home
Back up to heaven all alone
Nobody calling on the phone
Except the Pope maybe in Rome

[Instrumental]

And yeah, yeah, God he is great
Yeah, yeah, God he is good
Yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah

What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home

Just trying to make his way home
Like a holy rolling stone
Back up to heaven all alone
Just trying to make his way home
Nobody calling on the phone
Except the Pope maybe in Rome.

This song is catchy, tho, i'm still a bit puzzled about the meaning, i don't quite understand what she's trying to pull through, lke the message. Mm... I might need to look closer into it...

Matthew 25:34-40 (new international version)

34"then the king will say to those on his right, 'come, you who are blessed by my father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35for i was hungry and you gave me something to eat, i was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, i was a stranger and you invited me in, 36i needed clothes and you clothed me, i was sick and you looked after me, i was in prison and you came to visit me. '

37"then the righteous will answer him, 'lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38when did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39when did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? '

40"the king will reply, 'i tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. '

Luis, luis my evangelical friend this song is a slam at god. By saying is seeing his face worth beliving in god's posse, his crew. Knowing his name, what good is that? How are you going to use it? God could just as easily be that guy on a bus as the ruler of the universe. Joan osborne is liberal secularist and this is her point of view. But i like this song because it does make you wonder if god is here with us, watching us, and not helping because of the senseless violence we inflict on one another. I have written a parody of this song about barack. It takes more than faith, for faith without action is pointless.

What do you think of "don't fear the reaper"?

I think this song is trying to tell us that god lives in all of us and he make us at his imagine but we think that god is someone poweful, intouchable but that's not true, we can talk to him everyday, we see him everyday in each one of us! He is calling us to believe in him with faith, we don't need to see him to believe, that's what make us believers, the fact of believe without seeing!! God bless everyone!! Nea z.
